The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has expanded the T20 Mumbai League by adding a ninth franchise representing the Navi Mumbai region. Aspects Sports has secured the operating rights for the new team for Rs 106.88 crore over six years, including Rs 12.21 crore for the first season.
The league completed its fourth edition with eight franchises in June 2026. With World Cup-winning India captain Rohit Sharma serving as the Face of the League, the competition is looking to strengthen its regional reach and create more opportunities for emerging cricketers.
Aspects Sports Secures Navi Mumbai Franchise for Rs 106.88 Crore
The MCA announced Aspects Sports as the successful bidder for the ninth franchise on Wednesday, September 23. Aspects Sports is owned by Aspect Global Ventures, whose Executive Chairperson is Aksha Kamboj.
The addition of the Navi Mumbai team increases the number of franchises in the T20 Mumbai League from eight to nine. It will also bring more players from the region into the competitive structure, giving them greater exposure at a higher level.
“The expansion of the T20 Mumbai League to Navi Mumbai is a significant milestone in our vision to take the game closer to every corner of the Mumbai cricketing ecosystem,” MCA president Ajinkya Naik said, as quoted by NDTV Sports.
“The addition of a ninth franchise will not only broaden the league’s reach but also create greater opportunities for emerging cricketers to showcase their talent on a competitive platform. We are delighted to welcome Aspects Sports and look forward to working together to further strengthen the league and nurture the next generation of cricketing talent.”
Important New Chapter in the Evolution - T20 Mumbai League Governing Council Chairman
T20 Mumbai League Governing Council chairman Rajdip Gupta also backed the expansion, saying the additional franchise would help the competition develop a stronger and more sustainable structure.
“The addition of a ninth franchise marks an important new chapter in the evolution of the T20 Mumbai League. As we look ahead, expanding our franchise base will enable the league to build a stronger and more sustainable ecosystem while creating more opportunities for players to grow,” Gupta said.
“It will also allow the league to create greater value for our stakeholders and deepen its engagement with audiences across the region. The entry of Aspects Sports and the expansion into Navi Mumbai further strengthen our foundation as we look to build the league into a larger and enduring sporting property,” he added.
Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav Among T20 Mumbai League Stars
The League has also attracted several prominent Indian cricketers, adding to its profile since its launch. Rohit Sharma, the World Cup-winning India captain, serves as the Face of the League.
The 2026 edition featured several India stars, including Suryakumar Yadav, Shreyas Iyer, Ajinkya Rahane, Shivam Dube, Shardul Thakur, Sarfaraz Khan, and Tushar Deshpande.
The presence of established players gives emerging cricketers from Mumbai and the surrounding regions an opportunity to compete in the same tournament. The expanded nine-team setup can now provide a wider platform for local players to develop and gain visibility at a higher level.
