Earlier, Pathan named his squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024, and he appointed Rohit Sharma as his captain for the event. His top order featured Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, and Rishabh Pant, who is also his wicketkeeper.

Pathan included Shivam Dube and Hardik Pandya as his all-rounders but mentioned that only if the MI skipper bowls regularly in the IPL 2024. The former Indian cricketer also picked Rinku Singh, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, and Mohammed Siraj in his 15-member squad, but he is not sure to pick between Ravi Bishnoi and Yuzvendra Chahal and Shubhman Gill and Sanju Samson.
