T20 WC 2024: Stuart Law gets big role with USA National Cricket Team

Stuart Law has stepped into a new role, as the former Australian cricketer has been appointed as the head coach of the USA men's cricket team. His appointment comes ahead of a crucial time for the USA National Cricket Team, with the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 looming on the horizon.

Law's first assignment with the USA National Cricket Team will be a three-match T20I series against Bangladesh. He brings with him a wealth of coaching experience, having previously served as the head coach for a number of international teams, including Bangladesh and the West Indies.

Stuart Law has rich coaching experience

He also worked with Sri Lanka and Afghanistan as coaches on an interim basis. Apart from these roles, the former Australian batter also coached the Bangladesh Under-19 team. Law's coaching tenure with Bangladesh saw significant milestones, guiding the team to their first Asia Cup final in 2012.

Additionally, Law worked with Cricket Australia as well, serving as the batting coach for the national team with CA's Centre of Excellence and coaching the Under-19 team, which shows his diverse expertise in nurturing cricketing talent across different levels.

With Law at the helm, the USA cricket team will look to make strides in their cricketing journey by using his experience and expertise as the co-hosts of the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024, alongside the West Indies, aiming to perform well in the multi-nation event.

USA is one of the strongest Associate nations: Stuart Law

Stuart Law said in an official statement about his appointment: “It is an exciting opportunity to join USA cricket at this time. USA is one of the strongest Associate nations in the sport, and I believe that we can mold a formidable squad going ahead. The first task will be to prepare the team for the series against Bangladesh and then set our sights on our home World Cup, which will be huge.”

Meanwhile, USA Cricket chairman Venu Pisike stated: “Stuart is one of the most accomplished coaches in the sport. He brings a lot of experience to USA Cricket with his varied assignments, particularly in developing international sides over the years. His appointment will only help the team grow to their full potential. We are excited to have Stuart on board just before the World Cup and look forward to lots of successes together.”

Notably, Law played only one Test for Australia but represented his country in 54 ODIs, taking 12 wickets and scoring 1237 runs. He also scored 27080 runs in 367 first-class matches and snared 83 wickets, apart from taking 90 wickets and scoring 11812 runs in 392 List-A matches. He also has 1197 runs in 51 T20s and 2 wickets to his name in the format.

The USA team will kick off their T20 World Cup 2024 campaign with a match against Canada in Texas on June 1. Following their T20 World Cup 2024 opener, the USA will face tough challenges against other Group A opponents, including Pakistan on June 6, India on June 12, and Ireland on June 14.
