Former Indian batsman Aakash Chopra heaped praises on Babar Azam for becoming the quickest to reach 1000 T20I runs as a captain and surpassing another record of Virat Kohli. Babar Azam has been often compared with the likes of Virat Kohli for his consistency levels in international cricket across formats and his match-winning ability.

The battle between Virat Kohli and Babar Azam in the India-Pakistan game of the T20 World Cup 2021 certainly worked in the Pakistan skipper’s favour, and in the process, he became the fastest captain to reach 1000 T20I runs. Babar has been instrumental in Pakistan’s successful run in the T20 World cup 2021 so far.

“Babar Azam Comes From Behind And Overtakes It” – Aakash Chopra

Aakash Chopra hailed Babar Azam for going after the records that were held by Virat Kohli as not many players have been able to break the records of Virat. He added that Babar is outstanding in run chases and reckoned that he is more like a Virat Kohli for Pakistan.

“During his innings, Babar Azam became the fastest to 1000 T20I runs as a captain. The earlier record was held by Virat Kohli. Azam seems to be chasing Kohli. Whatever record Kohli creates, Babar Azam comes from behind and overtakes it! He’s brilliant and was like a glue in the run chase,” Aakash Chopra told on his Youtube Channel.

Aakash Chopra Explains What Went Good For Babar Azam

Aakash Chopra mentioned that Babar Azam had the luxury of Mohammad Rizwan going after the bowling from another end mostly, and despite the fall of Rizwan’s wicket against Afghanistan, Fakhar Zaman took the role of the aggressor. He added that Babar started going after the bowling only after Fakhar was dismissed.

“The good thing (for Azam) is that someone or the other keeps scoring at a swift pace at the other end. Mohammad Rizwan got out early for a change but Fakhar Zaman came in and started playing his shots right away. After Fakhar lost his rhythm, Babar accelerated,” He added.
