South African fast bowler Anrich Nortje entered the top ten of the International Cricket Council's (ICC) men's T20I rankings on Wednesday, June 5. Anrich Nortje jumped nine places to reach the eighth position following his outstanding bowling performance against Sri Lanka in the T20 World Cup 2024.

The Aiden Markram-led team began their World Cup campaign with a comfortable six-wicket victory in New York on June 3rd. Anrich Nortje registered his career-best bowling figures of 4/7 as Sri Lanka was bundled out for 77 runs. He is the only South African in the top 10 of the bowling charts in the shorter format.

Nortje dismissed key Sri Lankan batters, including Kamindu Mendis (11 off 15), Kusal Mendis (19 off 30), Charith Asalanka (6 off 9), and Angelo Mathews (16 off 16). He also set a record for the best-ever bowling figures by a Proteas bowler in the T20 World Cup, surpassing his previous best of 4/10 against Bangladesh in 2022.

England spinner Adil Rashid has maintained his top position in the T20I rankings, followed by the Indian spin pair of Ravi Bishnoi and Axar Patel in third and fourth places, respectively. Fazalhaq Farooqi (5/9) also entered the top 10 rankings after securing a five-wicket haul against Uganda in Afghanistan's victory by 125 runs.

Shakib Al Hasan Reclaims Top Spot In T20I All-Rounder Rankings

Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib al-Hasan reclaimed the top spot in the ICC all-rounder rankings, replacing Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga. Shakib took six wickets and scored 58 runs in his recent five T20Is. Hasaranga scored a duck in the opening fixture against South Africa, but he picked up two wickets for 22 runs.

Shakib al Hasan aims to maintain his top position as Bangladesh begins their campaign against Sri Lanka on June 8. Mohammad Nabi, Sikandar Raza, and Marcus Stoinis are in the top five ICC T20I all-rounder rankings. Hardik Pandya is the only player from the Indian team to feature in the latest all-rounder charts.

Suryakumar Yadav Retains Top Spot In T20I Batting Rankings

In the latest ICC T20I rankings, there were no changes in the top 10, with Suryakumar Yadav from India maintaining the top position. Pakistani players Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam hold the second and third spots, respectively. Young Indian opening batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal is in sixth place with 714 rating points.

However, there is uncertainty regarding Jaiswal's place in the playing XI due to speculation about Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma opening the innings for India. The Rohit Sharma-led team will begin their World Cup campaign against Ireland at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York on Wednesday, June 5.

In the T20I batting rankings, Afghanistan's Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran reached the 20th and 24th positions, respectively. Gurbaz scored 76 runs off 45 balls, while Zadran added 70 off 46 deliveries during their 154-run partnership for the opening wicket against Uganda in their opening game in the World Cup.
