The hunt for the Indian head coach is on and one of the names that has emerged is of Ashish Nehra. But as per the reports in PTI, it is learned that the Gujarat Titans head coach as of now hasn't expressed his interest in applying for the role of Team India.

The Indian team is looking for a head coach in all three formats of the game. Rahul Dravid's tenure as coach is all set to end after the T20 World Cup 2024. Although the former India skipper can re-apply for the post but reports have claimed that Dravid isn't keen to take up the role.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Monday (13th May) invited the applications for the head coach of Team India. The contract of the head coach will be for 3.5 years, ranging from 1st July 2024 to 31st December 2027. The appointed coach will have to be with the team for 10 months in year.

One of the best coaches that has been going in Indian cricket is Ashish Nehra. The former Indian cricketer has been exceptional in the role for Gujarat Titans for the past two years. He led the team to a title win in 2022 and then guided them to the final in 2023.

There have been reports that Ashish Nehra is in contention for the role but the latest report in PTI stated that so far the Gujarat Titans coach is not interested but things can change till the 27th of May. More than the foreign coach, BCCI would be keen to rope in an Indian coach, who has a great idea of how things work.

Ashish Nehra in 2021 also expressed his desire to take up the role of coach in the Indian team. The Gujarat Titans coach during the event, stated that if given a chance, he would be ready to take up the role. He had stated:

“Why not, if I would be given a chance to coach the Indian team why won’t I. I believe the team not only revolves around the captain it’s the management that plays the key role."

BCCI also interested in roping in Stephen Fleming as head coach of Team India

Recently, there were reports in the Indian Express which claimed that the Board of Control for Cricket in India is looking up to Stephen Fleming to take over the duties from Rahul Dravid, who will leave after the T20 World Cup 2024.

Stephan Fleming is seen as a potential candidate because BCCI wants Team India to go through transition and according to them, there's no better candidate than Fleming. The body has been impressed by the ability to bring the best out of players, which he has been doing with Chennai Super Kings since 2009.

It was also learned that informal conversations between Stephen Fleming and BCCI have already taken place on the sidelines of the IPL 2024. It remains to be seen if the Chennai Super Kings coach applies for the post in the Indian team or not.
