Allrounder Chris Jordan is reportedly set to earn a recall in the England T20 side for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The defending champions will announce their squad on Tuesday (April 30) for the marquee event, scheduled to be played in June this year.

Jordan, who has played 88 T20Is so far, has not played a T20I for England since September 2023. His last appearance came during the Birmingham T20I against New Zealand. He was not a part of the T20I squad for the tour of West Indies later in December but is now in contention to be a part of the World Cup squad.

According to a report in ESPNcricinfo, Jamie Overton's injury has made Jordan the favorite to be picked as the bowler capable of valuable cameos with the bat lower down the order'. The report further added that Jordan's recall would be a piece of bad news for Chris Woakes who is yet to play a game for Punjab Kings in the ongoing IPL 2024.

Chris Jordan the front-runner:

One of the reasons behind Chris Jordan being preferred over Woakes is his vast experience in T20s. Jordan has ample experience in T20s not only in international cricket but in the franchise circuit as well. He has plied his trade in almost all the major T20 leagues in the world and has been a part of as many as four T20 World Cups.

He was a part of the England team for the 2014, 2016, 2021 and 2022 T20 World Cups. He has played 18 games in the T20 World Cup so far and has picked up 21 wickets in addition to scoring 70 runs. Jordan is also regarded as one of the best fielders in the English team and it could further boost his chances.

England squad for T20 World Cup:

The news outlet further reported that England are expected to pick a top four comprising Jos Buttler, Phil Salt, Will Jacks, and Jonny Bairstow. All four players are currently playing in the IPL and have impressed with their batting. Buttler has scored two centuries already while Jacks and Bairstow have scored one each so far. On the other hand, Salt has scored four half-centuries.

Left-handed batsman Ben Duckett has also made the cut as England's spare batter. Uncapped Tom Hartley is also set to be a part of the squad as he will be preferred over Rehan Ahmed as the second frontline spinner, behind Adil Rashid. Jofra Archer will also feature in the team.

Possible England T20 World Cup squad:

Jos Buttler (captain), Phil Salt, Will Jacks, Jonny Bairstow, Ben Duckett, Harry Brook, Liam Livingstone, Moeen Ali (vice-captain), Sam Curran, Chris Jordan, Tom Hartley, Adil Rashid, Jofra Archer, Mark Wood, Reece Topley
