Gone are the days when a sound defensive technique was seen as one of the most important attributes of a batsman. The modern-day batsmen are now trying to be ultra-aggressive thanks to the meteoric rise of T20 cricket.

In the ongoing edition of the IPL, the batters have been scoring runs for fun. Not very long ago, anything above 200 was seen as a safe score. However, IPL 2024 has shown that even a 250-plus score might not be safe let alone anything around 200 runs.

And Sourav Ganguly has pretty much summed up the huge change by revealing an interesting anecdote. In a recent interview, the former India skipper revealed how his nephew told him that Virat Kohli might get dropped from the team after he saw the batting superstar defend a ball.

"I have a nephew at home. He's 14. He saw Virat Kohli defending one day. He said, 'uncle, he is defending. They might not pick him'. That's what the mindset is," said Sourav Ganguly.

Meanwhile, Sourav Ganguly recently stated that Kohli should be opening for Team India in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Heaping praise on the right-handed batsman for his impressive display in the ongoing IPL 2024, the former India batsman stated that the team should use the in-form player as an opener.

"Virat is playing exceptionally well. The way Kohli batted last night - 90 in quick time, you need to use him as an opener in the T20 World Cup. He should open, evidenced by his last few IPL innings which have been outstanding," Ganguly told PTI.

Virat Kohli in IPL 2024:

Virat Kohli has been in stunning form in the 17th edition of the IPL. Not very long ago, there were calls from several quarters to drop him from the Indian T20I team and not pick him in the World Cup squad. However, the former India skipper has shut down the critics in style with his brilliant displays for Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

He is the leading run-scorer in IPL 2024. In 13 games so far, Kohli has scored 661 runs with the help of one century and five half-centuries.
