The International Cricket Council (ICC), on Monday (June 3), announced a record-breaking prize fund for the ongoing ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024. The ninth edition of the T20 World Cup got underway on Sunday (June 2) with the game between co-hosts USA and Canada in Dallas.

A record 20 teams are participating in the 2024 T20 World Cup. The 20 teams have been divided into four groups of five teams each. The top two teams from each group will advance to the Super 8s stage. The Super 8s stage will then determine the four semifinalists. The tournament is being co-hosted by the USA and West Indies.

Prize money for ICC T20 World Cup 2024:

With the tournament just starting, the ICC has given the teams yet another reason to give it their all on the field. The governing body of the game has announced a prize money of $11.25 million USD for the tournament. The winners of T20 World Cup 2024 will be receiving at least $2.45 million, the ICC has announced.

It is the highest amount for the winners in the history of the T20 World Cup. On the other hand, the runners-up will earn at least $1.28 million, while the losing semifinalists will be receiving$787,500 each. The teams that will fail to advance ahead of the second round will be taking home $382,500 each while those finishing between ninth and 12th place will get $247,500 each.

For the teams finishing from 13th to 20th place, the ICC has announced a prize money of $225,000. In addition to those fixed prize money, the teams will also receive an extra $31,154 for each match won, apart from the semifinals and finals.

"This event is historic in so many ways, so it is fitting that the prize money for players reflects that. Hundreds of millions of fans around the world will be entertained by the players in what we’re hoping to be an Out of This World event," said ICC Chief Executive Geoff Allardice.

Meanwhile, the USA, West Indies, and Namibia have started their campaigns in the T20 World Cup 2024 with a win. While the USA and West Indies beat Canada and Papua New Guinea respectively on day one of the tournament, Namibia beat Oman on the second day.
