England's white-ball captain, Jos Buttler, is confident that his team can overcome their disappointment in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, as they aim to retain their title in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in the USA and the Caribbean.
Buttler sounded positive when he was asked about the ability of the England cricket team to bounce back like they did in the 2022 T20 World Cup after losing a rain-affected match to Ireland at the MCG and after the 2015 ODI World Cup.
England also made history in 2019 by winning their maiden ODI World Cup at Lord’s following their disastrous 2015 campaign, and Buttler doesn’t see any reason why England can’t retain the T20 World Cup title.

Buttler further highlighted that they have picked experienced players for the 2024 T20 World Cup squad, and they are well-versed in the demands of T20 cricket. He also stressed that drastic changes will not always bring you success, but focusing on playing good cricket and handling critical moments effectively wins the matches.
The star opening batter further mentioned that it's crucial to recover well from difficulty, read the game accurately, adapt to changing conditions, and maintain composure to succeed in the upcoming T20 World Cup in 2024.
The England captain noted that adaptability is crucial, as there will be matches where you have to score high, whereas you have the job of defending the modest total in the upcoming mega event.
The skipper has made it clear that England's approach will be about maintaining composure, making smart decisions, and making the most of their experience to perform under pressure, as they aim to retain their T20 World Cup title in the USA and Caribbean next month. Notably, England is slotted alongside Australia, Namibia, Scotland, and Oman in Group B.
I don't think it's about trying to reinvent the wheel: Jos Buttler
Jos Buttler was quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo: “I don't see why not. I'm pretty sure there's some experienced players in there who know how cricket works, and know how to play T20 cricket. I don't think it's about trying to reinvent the wheel or trying to give people messages that they've never heard before. It's about playing good cricket. In tournament cricket, you've got to play the crunch moments really well. You've got to come back from adversity really well. You have to read the game and play well, and be able to adapt.”
Buttler further explained his point of view: “There might be games where you need to score in excess of 200, there might be games where you need to scrap and try and defend 140, on a wicket that's holding up and it's tough for batting. We've got a really nice blended squad actually. We've got a lot of experience but some guys who are really on the upward curve, the likes of Phil Salt, Will Jacks and Harry Brook, who is still very early in his international career. Those guys are really trending in the right direction and pushing this team forward.”
