T20 World Cup 2024: Mohammed Shami termed equivalent to Jasprit Bumrah by former Australian legend

Former Sunrisers Hyderabad Coach Tom Moody feels that Mohammed Shami is similar to Jasprit Bumrah for Gujarat Titans in IPL. He also added that Mohammed Shami is the biggest miss for Gujarat Titans in IPL 2024.

Mohammed Shami was ruled out of IPL 2024 due to injury. Notably, Shami was the highest wicket-taker last season and won the purple cap. However, his absence has highly impacted GT's performance in IPL 2024.

Gujarat Titans have been eliminated from the IPL 2024 playoffs. The Shubman Gill-led side has lost 9 games and lost 4 out of 13. They take the 3rd last spot in the points table and will play one more game in the season.

Mohammed Shami is equivalent to Jasprit Bumrah for Gujarat Titans

Speaking about Gujarat Titans, Tom Moody said that Mohammed Shami has been the biggest miss for the team in IPL 2024.

"When it comes to this season, in my view, the biggest miss is Mohammed Shami. I think he is the head of the arrow of that team. Particularly their bowling attack. The way that he impacted the opposition with the new ball, he got the good players out that were real threats", he said.

He also noted how Shami helped the team at the time of distress and Hardik Pandya banked upon him.

"Hardik Pandya the captain would call upon him when times were tough. He would deliver and he also delivered at the death. Which historical hasn't been his strength", he further said.

"But he has grown over the last couple of years to be a really good death bowler as well. So that's hard, that like it's equivalent to a (Jasprit) Bumrah for Gujarat- Mohammed Shami's impact", he further added.

Gujarat Titans dominated in the last two seasons

Interestingly, Gujarat Titans was the most dominant team during the last two seasons. In IPL 2022, GT finished in the top spot in the league stage and also won the title later.

In IPL 2023, they finished as the top team in the points table after the league stage. However, they failed to crush Chennai Super Kings in the final.

Ahead of IPL 2024, GT skipper Hardik Pandya left the side to join his previous team Mumbai Indians. Shubman Gill was promoted as the new skipper for the team. However, he failed to lead the team to a wonderful show this season.

Gujarat Titans will face Sunrisers Hyderabad in their last match of IPL 2024 on Thursday, May 16. The encounter takes place at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.
