Pakistan National Cricket Team and England National Cricket Team are all set to miss their warmup games for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. As per the reports in Cricket Pakistan, it is learned that both teams have agreed to miss the warmup games for the tournament.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) will be announcing the fixtures for warmup games of the T20 World Cup 2024 soon. With the tournament all set to kick start from 1st June, it is likely that the practice games will be played around May 25th and 26th to allow teams to get used to conditions.
But Pakistan and England will be crossing swords with each other in the four-match series just ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024. The series between the two teams will begin on 22nd May and will conclude on 30th May, two days ahead of the mega event starting in the USA and Caribbean.
Therefore both the teams will be playing against each other instead of the warmup games. Both the cricketing boards of the teams in Pakistan Cricket Board and England and Wales Cricket Board have mutually agreed to skip the warmup games of the T20 World Cup 2024.
Both Pakistan and England playing against each other will be an ideal preparation for both the teams going into the T20 World Cup 2024. Both the teams played final of the T20 World Cup 2022 with Jos Buttler-led side emerging victorious. They would be hoping to get their combination and other things right before heading into the tournament.
Pakistan will open their campaign in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 with a game against the United States of America in Dallas on 6th June. Following that they will be taking on arch-rivals India on 9th June in New York. They will play their last two League games against Canada and Ireland on the 12th and 16th of June in New York and Florida respectively.
England on the other hand will play their first game against Scotland on 4th June and then will be taking on Australia in their second match on 8th June. Both the games will be played in Barbados. They will then play Oman and Namibia on June 13 and 15 in Antigua respectively in their last two League games.
BCCI requests ICC to stage India's warmup game in New York
A report in cricbuzz recently suggested that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has requested ICC to stage India’s warm-up game in New York, aligning with the team's base. Earlier, Florida was kept as a venue for India's warmup game by ICC and Cricket West Indies (CWI).
However, Indian players aren't keen to travel this much, especially with them having a lot of travel in the Indian Premier League. The Rohit Sharma-led side will be traveling to the USA in two batches. The first set of players, whose teams won't qualify for playoffs will go on May 25 while the rest will travel on 26th.
India will be opening their account in the ICC T20 World 2024 against Ireland. The match will take place on 5th June in New York.
