With the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 looming on the horizon, the Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma’s poor form with the bat in the ongoing IPL 2024 has become a big cause for concern.

As India sets its sights on ending an 11-year ICC title drought in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 in the USA and the Caribbean, Rohit's recent performances for the Mumbai Indians (MI) in the ongoing IPL 2024 have left fans and cricket experts worried.

Before the start of the ongoing IPL 2024, Rohit had been in stellar form across all formats of the game, but his form took an unexpected downturn during the later stages of the tournament.

Notably, the right-handed opener managed to score only 349 runs at an average of 29 and a strike rate of 145 in his 13 appearances for the Mumbai Indians (MI) in the ongoing IPL 2024.

Despite starting the season with a sensational performance, the MI opener’s batting witnessed a notable decline, with a forgettable run of just 53 runs in his last five innings, featuring four single-digit scores to his name, which is not a good sign for India ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024.

I don't think Rohit Sharma's form is a big worry: Varun Aaron

Meanwhile, Varun Aaron, a former India fast bowler, came out in support of Rohit and said that the Indian skipper can "flip the switch" when it comes to representing Team India.

Aaron believes that Rohit's form should not be a concern as the captain possesses the capability to elevate his game and perform at his best when wearing the national colors.

Aaron Finch was quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo: “I don't think it's a big worry. Rohit can flip the switch at national duty, he holds it in very high regard. A player of his class, you can easily use the phrase form is temporary, class is permanent."

"He will find form; he doesn't have to worry. It's been a big worry for MI, and that's why they haven't qualified, because he's a big piece of their puzzle. It shouldn't be a problem for the Indian team.”

Irfan Pathan concerned over Rohit Sharma's poor form

Earlier, former Indian all-rounder and commentator, Irfan Pathan, said that Hardik Pandya and Rohit Sharma’s form is a big worry for the MI and the Indian cricket team. He also hopes that they come back to form quickly, as India needs them to be at their best at the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024.

Notably, Rohit played as an impact player in the KKR vs MI clash and made 19 runs off 24 balls during his team’s 18-run defeat against the hosts at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Saturday, May 11.

On the other hand, Hardik could face only 4 balls for just 2 runs against KKR. The MI will end their IPL 2024 campaign on May 17 against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
