T20 World Cup 2024: Usman Khawaja predicts Virat Kohli to be Player of the Tournament; picks India, Australia as finalists

Australia cricketer Usman Khawaja made his predictions for the T20 World Cup 2024. He backed India batter Virat Kohli to be the leading run-getter in the tournament and also picked India vs Australia to be the final of the tournament. 

The T20 World Cup 2024 is just a couple of sleeps away from now. The event will begin on the 1st of June and with the final all set to take place on the 30th of June. The tournament will be played across two countries in United States of America and the Caribbean. 

It will for the first time that 20 teams will be taking part in it and therefore it makes it even harder to predict the winners and even the favourites for the semi-finals or final. However, for Usman Khawaja, it was easy to make quite a few predictions. 

The Australian Test batter backed India and Australia to play the final of the T20 World Cup 2024. Talking about this to Prime Video, he stated: “T20 final teams, I’m always biased. I have to go to Australia for one of them. Always been there and thereabouts, so we are always a safe bet.

“I’m going to India as the second one. Second finalists team. Just because, it’s hard not to go past India, every time you see their team it looks strong. Looks like there’s a chance they can make the final.”

Both India and Australia have named pretty balanced squads for the T20 World Cup 2024. They also played the final of the ICC World Cup 2023 and it saw Australia winning the game and lifting their 6th title. 

Usman Khawaja also shared about one record that can be broken in T20Is. The Australian cricketer said that he feels the record for the most runs scored in T20 will be broken or the record for the most wickets by an individual could be shattered. 

Usman Khawaja backs Virat Kohli to be the leading run-getter in T20 World Cup 2024 

Usman Khawaja was also asked to pick the top player of the T20 World Cup 2024. He backed Virat Kohli to set the stage on fire as he believes that the batter is the heart and soul of the Indian team and will be hard to stop. He stated: 

“I think the person that is going to have the biggest 2024 World Cup campaign, I’m mean, I’m just going with the odds here. I want to say Virat Kohli. He bats up the order, scores runs consistently. He has been the heart and soul of that Indian team for a long time. So it’s an easy probability bet.”

Virat Kohli will be coming into the T20 World Cup 2024 on the back of massive success in the IPL 2024. He ended the tournament as the leading scorer with 741 runs to his name in 15 innings at an average of 61.75. He also scored one hundred and five fifties in the tournament at a strike rate of over 154.
