Young Indian all-rounder Riyan Parag has finally broken his silence on missing out on selection for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The BCCI recently announced the 15-member preliminary squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024, starting on June 1 in the USA and Caribbean.

However, Parag neither found a place in India’s 15-member preliminary squad nor as the traveling reserve for the upcoming ICC event, despite being in great form with the bat in the ongoing IPL 2024.

Most recently, the 22-year-old played a stunning knock of 77 runs off 49 balls against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), but they were not enough to save the IPL 2024 match for the Rajasthan Royals (RR).

The Assam all-rounder has emerged as one of the standout performers in the ongoing IPL 2024, showcasing his prowess with the bat and silencing his critics with some spectacular batting performances for the table-topper Rajasthan Royals (RR).

I was not really thinking about anything: Riyan Parag

After being promoted to No. 4, Parag has been delivering consistently, emerging as the RR’s leading run-scorer. His impressive performance against the SRH has put him in the fourth position in the race for the Orange Cap, having amassed a total of 409 runs in 10 matches at an impressive strike rate of 159.14.

Parag surprised many with his outstanding performance, as he was not even in contention for the Orange Cap before the start of the ongoing IPL 2024 and even felt he could not play this year. The right-hander's stellar performance in the ongoing IPL 2024 has garnered attention from fans and experts, with many calling for his inclusion in India's T20 World Cup squad.

However, despite his remarkable turnout this season, Parag missed out on selection for the mega event, but the RR star stressed that he was not disappointed with his snub and hopes Team India will bring the cup home. He gave a sharp and powerful response to the media when he was asked about his T20 World Cup 2024 snub.

Riyan Parag said at the post-match press conference after the SRH vs RR match: “Not really. Until last year, I was not even in contention to play in IPL, right? So, I have heard a few rumors. I am not on social media anymore. I heard few noises here and there but I am just glad they are taking my name for the right reasons now. I was not really thinking about anything. I am really happy for the boys in our team, Sanju bhaiya (RR skipper Sanju Samson) specially, getting the call-up. It is going to be great for our country and hopefully, we bring the World Cup home.”

Notably, RR suffered its only second defeat on Thursday, when SRH hammered the tourists by just a single run at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad in the IPL 2024 clash.

However, the Royals remained at the top of the IPL 2024 points table with 16 points from 10 games so far. RR will next face the Delhi Capitals (DC) on May 7 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in the ongoing tournament.
