Former India cricketer Yuvraj Singh made his predictions for the final of the T20 World Cup 2024. The Brand Ambassador of the tournament believes three teams have a high chance of reaching the final and also cheekily quipped he doesn’t want Australia.
The T20 World Cup 2024 is currently going on. The tournament kickstarted on 2nd June and will be played over June. The United States of America and the Caribbean will be hosting the tournament and 20 teams will be clashing for the title.
With 20 teams clashing for the title, it’s hard to pick the favourites but the journey from the group stage to the Super 8 stage will be easy for the some of big teams. India along with Pakistan are likely to make it from their group as they are placed with Ireland, the USA, and Canada.
On the other hand, England and Australia look like favorites to qualify for the Super 8 from Group B as they have Namibia, Oman, and Scotland along with them. While the West Indies, New Zealand, and Afghanistan are in Group C.
In Group D, South Africa, and Sri Lanka seem to be the favorites as they have Bangladesh, along with the Netherlands and Nepal in the group. The top two teams from each group will then make it into the Super 8 stage of the tournament.
The Super 8 stage of the tournament will be a round-robin. The top four teams in the points table will play the semi-finals and the two winners will play the final. With all teams being in good form, it promises to help an enthralling tournament.
For Yuvraj Singh, India along with West Indies and Pakistan have a great chance to play in the final. He also hilariously stated that Australia shouldn’t be there in the final. Speaking to PTI at the opening of Fan Park at the Oculus Trade Centre in New York.
“I’m hoping India, probably West Indies. Pakistan 3, and no Australians (laughs).”
“Leading run-getter seems like Virat Kohli”- Yuvraj Singh
Yuvraj Singh also talked about the one player he is looking forward to. He said that he is keen to see Rishabh Pant as he is returning from the injury. He also stated that Virat Kohli will be the leading run-getter in the tournament:
“I would say, Rishabh Pant. I am looking forward to the return of Rishabh, he is coming back from a massive injury. And the leading run-getter seems like Virat Kohli, he’s had a very good IPL.”
India won the warmup game against Bangladesh. They were sensational with the bat and ball and almost ticked every box right ahead of the main tournament. The Rohit Sharma-led side will be opening their campaign against Ireland on 5th June. They would be keen to win the tournament and end the title drought. They last won the ICC title in 2013 and would be desperate for the win.
