The final of the T20 World Cup 2026 between India and New Zealand is all set to take place on Sunday, March 8, at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. As excitement builds for the title clash, the ICC has also announced the match officials for the big game.

New Zealand thrashed South Africa by nine wickets in the first semifinal to qualify for the T20 World Cup 2026, while the Men in Green stunned England by seven runs in the second semifinal to make it their second consecutive final, having won the title in 2024 under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy.

As the defending champions are set to face the Black Caps in the summit clash in Ahmedabad on Thursday, the ICC has selected the well-known faces for the mega encounter on Sunday.

England’s experienced umpires Richard Illingworth and Alex Wharf will be in charge as the on-field umpires for the India vs New Zealand final. Illingworth and Wharf recently worked together when New Zealand shocked South Africa in the first semifinal at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Well, Illingworth is all set to return for his second consecutive T20 World Cup final. He also served as the match official during the ODI World Cup 2023 and ICC Champions Trophy 2025 – India participated in both occasions and had suffered heartbreak in Ahmedabad.

Speaking about Wharf, who was named to the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Umpires in 2025, the umpire was the match official during the ICC Women’s World Cup 2022 and ODI World Cup 2023.

Meanwhile, South Africa’s Allahuddien Paleker has been given the responsibility of third umpire for the T20 World Cup 2026 final between the Men in Blue and the Black Caps in Ahmedabad. Paleker already stood out in six games so far in the ongoing tournament.

Another South African umpire, Adrian Holdstock, will take charge as the fourth umpire for the title clash. On the other hand, Andy Pycroft will be the match referee in the title clash.

The 48-year-old official became part of the ICC’s elite umpiring panel in March 2025 and has already overseen several matches in the ongoing tournament.

Meanwhile, India and New Zealand are set to create history in the T20 World Cup 2026 final in Ahmedabad. With this clash, the two teams will become the first pair in cricket history to face each other in the finals of all three major ICC formats.

Their rivalry in ICC finals started in 2000 when New Zealand defeated India in the Champions Trophy final. The Kiwis again got the better of India in the ICC World Test Championship Final in 2021 at Southampton to become the first Test world champions.

Last year, the Men in Blue turned the tables by beating New Zealand in the Champions Trophy 2025 final in Dubai. Now both teams are ready for another historic battle in the T20 World Cup 2026 final.
