Tim David’s Big Bash League 2025-26 (BBL 2025-26) season has come to an early and disappointing end, creating fresh concern for both the Hobart Hurricanes and Australian cricket. The hard-hitting batter has been ruled out of the rest of the BBL 2025-26 after suffering a hamstring injury.

This setback has now put David’s availability for the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 in doubt. The power hitter sustained the hamstring injury during Hobart Hurricanes’ Big Bash League match against the Perth Scorchers on Friday, December 26.

While trying to push for a second run, David felt pain in his hamstring. Realizing something was wrong, he chose to retire hurt straight away to avoid making the injury worse. At that moment, there was still some hope that the damage might not be serious.

Those hopes ended after medical scans were completed. The scans confirmed a hamstring strain, and as a result, David has been ruled out of the remainder of the BBL season, as reported by Code Sports. It is being said that David suffered a grade two right hamstring strain, which has ended his Big Bash League campaign early.

This is a big blow for the Hobart Hurricanes and also for Australia. However, the Australian team management remains optimistic that the star batter will recover in time for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2026, starting on February 7, 2026, in India and Sri Lanka.

Hobart Hurricanes Yet to Confirm Tim David Replacement

However, the Hobart Hurricanes have not yet released any official statement regarding the David setback nor any replacement for the hard-hitting batter, but they have already hinted about him missing for the larger part of the BBL 2025-26.

On their official website, the club stated, “Unfortunately for Hurricanes fans, Tim David is likely to miss an extended part of the tournament with a hamstring injury, with the full extent of the injury to be confirmed in the coming days. A statement will be provided to media once more is known.”

Meanwhile, the Hurricanes announced their squad for the next Big Bash League match against the Melbourne Renegades that will be played at Ninja Stadium on Monday, December 29.

Earlier, Australian head coach Andrew McDonald expressed optimism about David’s recovery, especially due to Australia’s schedule at the ICC T20 World Cup 2026.

Australia will face Ireland and Zimbabwe in their first two group-stage matches, and they can easily give rest to David for these games. Their big game against Sri Lanka on February 16, which could allow extra recovery time for him.

McDonald stated, "Not sure whether it's just pure muscle or tendon, and that'll give us a timeframe. I think the timeframe will be kind on TD as well. So, he should be available regardless of what that injury is.”
