Residents Of Tamil Nadu Wont Be Allowed To Play Dream11 As The State Bans Online Games

Residents of Tamil Nadu will not be allowed to play and earn money on fantasy sports like Dream11, MPL, as a bill has been passed to ban any games related to online betting in the state. Online fantasy games have been loved all over the country and the number of users has been mindboggling. Online games can always be risky as more amount of money can be lost through the game.
Dream11 is an online game where the user has to predict and pick his best 11 from both sides that will perform to their best. The cash part of the tournament is associated with a lot of risks and after facing a lot of issues, the Tamil Nadu government has decided to allow only free contests and practice contests. The new law will now be imposed from 3 pm, 6th of February.
The Bill Covers ‘Games Of Mere Skill’
The bill was moved by Deputy Chief Minister PanneerSelvam to prevent incidents of suicide-related to online games in the state. As per reports, Advocate Mohammad Rizvi filed a case after a youngster committed suicide in the state as he couldn’t pay back the money he gathered for online betting.
If any company is found faulty, then the person in charge and responsible for running the business will be in danger as well as the firm shall be deemed guilty of the offence.
The bill passed by the state government states that, “no person shall wager or bet in games like rummy or similar games played online using computers or any communication device or any other instrument of gaming. Also, no one shall facilitate or organise games involving gambling in the cyberspace”.
Kohli and Ganguly Involved in Promotion Of Online Games
Earlier last year, Indian captain Virat Kohli and BCCI president Sourav Ganguly were issued a notice by the Madurai bench of Madras High Court for their involvement in the promotion of online games and fantasy games like Dream11. The notices include actors like Prakash Raj, Tammanah Bhatia, Rana Dugubatti, and Sudip Khan for being involved with these sports companies.
Already the states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh have banned online gambling games and card games.
