Tamim Iqbal finally breaks silence on heart attack nightmare

Former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal has been discharged from the hospital after a heart attack. Tamim Iqbal was playing domestic cricket for Mohammedan Sporting Club when the heart-wrenching incident unfolded and left the cricket world worried for him.

The Mohammedan Sporting Club captain experienced discomfort immediately after the toss in a Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League match against Shinepukur Cricket Club. And he was taken to a nearby hospital for immediate care.

However, Tamim’s condition suddenly worsened, and he collapsed, as the doctors had to perform an urgent angioplasty surgery on Monday (March 24). Four days later, Tamim was finally discharged from the hospital.

Now, the former Bangladesh opener took to social media to express his gratitude to everyone who supported him during this challenging time. Despite his retirement from international cricket, Tamim remains active in domestic competitions, and his health scare has raised concerns among fans and fellow cricketers.

Tamim Iqbal said in Bangla in a message posted on his Facebook page, “By all your prayers, I am at home now. In these four days, I have discovered my surroundings as I found a new life. All that realization has is only love and gratitude. I have gotten your love throughout my career. But now I have felt it even more intensely. I am really overwhelmed.”

The former Bangladesh captain has sincerely thanked the doctors, hospital staff, and everyone who helped in his recovery. He gave special appreciation to trainer Yakub Chowdhury Dalim, whose quick CPR when he collapsed helped save his life.

Tamim further wrote on his Facebook, “How to thank our trainer Yakub Chowdhury Dalim bhai, I don't really know. I learned later, the specialist doctors said that I wouldn't have been saved if Dalim Bhai had not given CPR properly at that time.

The road to full recovery is still long. Keep me and my family in your prayers. May everyone's life be beautiful and peaceful. Love for everyone.”

Notably, Tamim is considered one of Bangladesh’s best batters of all time, having played 387 matches and scored 15,192 runs, including 25 centuries to his name, in international cricket. He is the second-highest run-scorer for Bangladesh in all three formats of the game after Mushfiqur Rahim.

Umar Gul in line to become Bangladesh's bowling coach

Meanwhile, former Pakistan fast bowler Umar Gul is being considered for the role of Bangladesh’s bowling coach. According to the reports, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is reportedly not happy with the performance of current bowling coach Andre Adams and mulling over replacing him, despite his having a contract until February 2026.

Along with Gul, former Australian pacer Shaun Tait is also in contention for the role. Both have previously worked as bowling coaches with the Pakistan national team. Additionally, Gul has also coached the Afghanistan cricket team.

The BCB recently extended Phil Simmons' contract as head coach until the ODI World Cup 2027. Notably, Bangladesh will host Zimbabwe in a two-match Test series next month from April 20.
