Bangladesh opener Shadman Islam's dismissal sparked a debate among commentators Tamim Iqbal, Ravi Shastri, and Dinesh Karthik on Day 1 of the second Test. Tamim Iqbal questioned the DRS decision that went in India's favor, and Ravi Shastri gave a fitting reply during the commentary panel.

Rohit Sharma opted to field first after winning the toss at the Green Park in Kanpur. Bangladesh's openers started strong against India's pace attack despite the overcast and damp conditions. Akash Deep turned the match in India's favor by dismissing Zakir Hasan and Shadman Islam in quick succession.

The 27-year-old fast bowler provided an early breakthrough for the home team by dismissing Zakir Hasan during the first session on the opening day. Yashasvi Jaiswal took a stunning catch to dismiss Zakir for a duck. Akash stuck again by dismissing Shadman Islam (24 runs off 36 balls) LBW.

The incident took place in the 13th over of Bangladesh's first innings. Akash Deep deceived left-hander Shadman Islam, who was hit on the pad before he could react with his bat. Akash appealed for an LBW decision, but the on-field umpire ruled in favor of the Bangladesh opening batter.

Akash immediately signaled for a review while looking at captain Rohit Sharma, who initially appeared unconvinced. Rohit turned to wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant after the appeal from the bowler. After a short discussion, the Indian skipper decided to challenge the on-field umpire's decision.

It appeared like the ball might slide down the leg side. However, the ball-tracking technology showed three reds, much to the shock and delight of the Indian players. The successful review proved crucial for India, but Tamim Iqbal questioned the reliability of the DRS technology in the dismissal.

Thought That Was Sliding Down The Leg Stump = Tamim Iqbal

Shortly after Shadman left the field, Tamim Iqbal questioned the ball tracking for that delivery. During the commentary, he said that he thought that was sliding down the leg stump, but DRS had other ideas.

"I thought that was sliding down the leg stump but DRS had other ideas," Tamim Iqbal said in the commentary.

Ravi Shastri disagreed with Tamim's concerns about the DRS decision by citing Dinesh Karthik's remarks. Shastri highlighted how camera angles can create misleading impressions. He noted that the angles are not always perfectly straight, which might suggest the ball was sliding down the leg side.

"DK spoke about the camera angles. It's not always absolutely straight, so it can give the impression that it is sliding down. Bounce was never going to be an issue in Kanpur. The Indian team was also surprised. There was only one member who believed it was out and that was Akash Deep," said Shastri.
