Taskin Ahmed breaks silence on woman-linked assault allegations

Bangladesh fast bowler Taskin Ahmed is facing legal issues following accusations of assaulting and threatening a man in Dhaka, who is a childhood friend of the cricketer, according to reports. In response, Taskin denied the allegations, dismissing them as false and an attempt to tarnish his reputation.
Taskin Ahmed last played for Bangladesh in the third T20I against Pakistan. According to a report by Prothom Alo, a complaint was filed alleging that Taskin assaulted his friend, Sifatur Rahman Sourav, in Dhaka’s Mirpur Model area. The incident has drawn attention, occurring just two days after the match.
Taskin Ahmed Lands in Legal Trouble After Being Accused of Assaulting a Friend
Police have opened an investigation into allegations against Taskin Ahmed, following the claims. According to the accuser, Taskin called him around midnight on Sunday before physically attacking him.
Sajjad Noman, the officer in charge at Mirpur Police Station, said that the altercation began as an argument and escalated into a brawl involving Taskin and several others. Authorities are currently working to gather more details surrounding the incident.
"A friend of Taskin alleged that he had an altercation and then a brawl with Taskin. There were other friends too. We are trying to find out the details of the incident," Sajjad Noman, the officer in charge of Mirpur thana, told New Age.
"And the incident didn’t take place in Mirpur, but they hopped in a vehicle in Mirpur. The incident took place in the Asad Gate area, which is under the Mohammadpur Thana. We are investigating it," he added.
Taskin Denies Assault Allegations After Police Complaint Filed Against Him
Taskin Ahmed responded to the allegations against him through a statement on his official Facebook page. He urged the public not to be misled by circulating rumours. The Bangladesh pacer added that the situation was unfortunate and damaging to both his and his family’s reputation.
"There are many things happening regarding an incident where I beat up my childhood friend. I think you should not be misled by hearing these rumours and let others be misled. This is not dignified for me, my family, and my friend," Taskin wrote on his official Facebook page.
"There was discussion between me and my friend on what happened. This should not have gone to the stage where it went. I just want to say one thing: the reality is different. I hope everyone will be with the truth, and the truth cannot be denied," he added.
Bangladesh Cricket Board Responds to Accusations Against Taskin Ahmed
Speaking to New Age, BCB's media and communication committee chairman, Iftekhar Rahman, confirmed that the board is monitoring the matter closely while the police conduct their investigation. He emphasized that no one should be considered guilty until proven.
"We are observing the matter. At this point, we know that the police are investigating this, and anyone is not guilty until proven," Iftekhar Rahman told New Age on Monday.
"He personally called me and said that these were false charges. We are waiting for the police reports. The Cricket Operations will take action in that case. But until then, there is nothing we can do," he added.
