Temba Bavuma again insulted for his height by Indian Legend on LIVE TV
PC: X

South African skipper Temba Bavuma had to face constant humiliation for his short height as a cricketer. This time, legendary Indian player-turned-commentator Ravi Shastri took a sly dig at Bavuma, comparing his shoe size with that of Simon Harmer at the non-striker's end.

India defeated the South Africans in the first Test at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, and Simon Harmer remained the finest bowler on show for the Proteas. The off-spinner stunned all with his performance at the Eden Gardens track, which offered immense help to the spinners.

Harmer is a true legend of Proteas domestic cricket, as he has picked 1000+ First-class wickets in 235 games. In first-class cricket, he has also scored 6500+ runs with two centuries and 33 half-centuries to his name. He helped South Africa to a win with a stunning 8/51 spell across the two innings in Kolkata.

Temba Bavuma ridiculed again for his short height by the Indian commentator

Temba Bavuma has constantly been insulted by the Indian players as well as spectators. He has been ridiculed for his short height, and a player of his calibre does not deserve to be insulted after his accomplishments in Test cricket.

"Dale Steyn says his (Simon Harmer's) shoe size is 15. So if he runs in the danger area, there could be a lot of damage done. Size 15!! Whoa!" remarked Ravi Shastri from the commentary box.

"What a contrast at the other end, the shoe size of Bavuma. It might be 6 or 7," Shastri ridiculed the South African with this remark, which once again seemed like a sly dig towards his small stature as a cricketer.

This controversy had first erupted when Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah was heard speaking ill about his small height. The pacer seemed to have called him 'bauna,' which means dwarf in the Indian language.

Temba Bavuma remained the only half-centurion in the First Test at Eden Gardens

While South African batters struggled further in the second innings, Indian spinners did a remarkable job to reduce them to 7/93 in their second innings at the end of Day 2; the skipper remained the last ray of hope.

South Africa could extend their lead to 123 and post a target of 124 runs in front of the Indian players with an unbeaten 55* from their skipper. In a partnership with Corbin Bosch, he scored many runs that finally contributed to the difference between the two teams.

Bavuma is the first South African skipper to have led them to an ICC title

Temba Bavuma, the veteran South African batter, was appointed the skipper of the red-ball side ahead of the previous WTC cycle. Under Temba's leadership, South Africa won several matches in the WTC cycle and qualified for their first-ever final after having topped the WTC points table.

Temba Bavuma led them to a win in the WTC Final not only as a captain but also with the bat alongside Aiden Markram. Bavuma turned out to be the first South African skipper to win an ICC Championship in the history of South African cricket.
