Former India allrounder Irfan Pathan has raised concerns over Hardik Pandya's batting abilities after the latter failed to impress during the game between Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals on Monday (April 22).
The Mumbai Indians skipper walked out to bat in the 17th over with MI well placed on 151 for 5. He had the perfect platform to showcase his finishing skills and guide his team to a good total. However, the under-pressure India allrounder had an ordinary outing with the bat as he struggled to play the big shots throughout his short stay at the crease.
Hardik Pandya was eventually out for run-a-ball ten runs. He managed to hit just one four in his knock. Soon after his knock, Irfan Pathan took to X (formerly Twitter) to express his concerns. The former cricketer-turned-commentator stated that Hardik Pandya's hitting ability is going down. Calling it a big worry, Irfan Pathan wrote:
"Hardik Pandya’s hitting ability is going down. That’s a big worry on a larger picture. At the wankhede he is different but on pitches where there is little help is what is worrisome for him."

MI struggled to finish well against RR as they managed to score just 28 runs in the last four overs while also losing five wickets. They eventually finished their innings on 179/9. In reply, RR chased down the total inside 19 overs by losing just one wicket. Yashasvi Jaiswal starred with the bat for RR, scoring an unbeaten century to take his team to its seventh win in eight games this season.
Hardik Pandya in IPL 2024:
Hardik Pandya has had a poor campaign in IPL 2024 so far. He has struggled to make an impact with both bat and ball. With the bat, he has managed to score a modest 151 runs in eight games with a top score of 39. The 151 runs have come off 106 deliveries.
His performance with the ball has not been very promising either. In eight games so far, the MI skipper has picked up only four wickets while having an economy-rate of almost 11.
