Reputed cricket commentator Aakash Chopra has attacked selectors over Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s absence from T20Is this year. Aakash Chopra feels that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli getting benched in T20Is post-last T20I World Cup is a big mystery.

Rohit Sharma is the current captain of India in all three formats while Virat Kohli is one of the most crucial batters. However, post India exited from ICC T20 World Cup 2022, neither of them ever featured in any T20I game.

Throughout 2023, Hardik Pandya led a young side in T20Is. While some senior players featured in some games, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli never played even one T20I match. With the focus shifting to the ICC T20I World Cup 2024, their presence is a key matter for selectors now.

Aakash Chopra Attacks Selectors Over Rohit Sharma-Virat Kohli Snub From T20Is

In his tweet on X, former India opener Aakash Chopra questioned selectors over Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s absence from T20Is since the last World Cup.

“In fact, since the last T20 World Cup…nobody has mentioned why Rohit-Virat weren’t a part of any T20I that India played. That’s a mystery…nobody has ever tried to unravel”, Aakash Chopra said.

The cricketer-turned-commentator also highlighted why selectors need to convince Rohit Sharma to lead India in T20Is when he never expressed his desire to leave the leadership of the team. Selectors want Sharma to lead India in T20Is and the forthcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

“I don’t think Rohit has ever expressed his desire not to lead India in any format. Happy to be corrected…if I have missed anything So, why does he need to be convinced for something that he’s never said NO to??, Aakash Chopra added in his tweet. Have a look at his tweet below.

Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma has been unavailable since India lost the ICC World Cup 2023 final to Australia. Selectors have left the decision of leading the team in T20Is to Sharma, who is yet to come up with a response for the same.

With Hardik Pandya’s injury, there is a concern over who will lead India in T20Is and the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Currently, Suryakumar Yadav is leading the team in the ongoing T20I series vs Australia. India will tour South Africa next month, where they will play a T20I series at the start.
