Former South Africa pace bowler Allan Donald said that Indian legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar was the best batsman he played against during his 11 years of international cricket.

Sachin Tendulkar is the leading run-scorer in Tests and ODIs with 15921 and 18426 runs respectively. He is the only batsman to have scored 100 international centuries- 51 in Tests and 49 in ODIs.

Sachin Tendulkar could adapt to South Africa conditions and techniques better than any Indian: Allan Donald

Tendulkar has scored 2641 international runs in South Africa from 40 ODIs and 15 Tests he played in his prolonged career and Donald admitted that no other batsman can adapt to the conditions of his country very well than Tendulkar.

“The guy who’s technically the best and I’ve played against is Tendulkar. I found it in South Africa that he could adapt to the conditions and our techniques better than any other Indian batsmen back in those times. If he stands on the crease for like 28 or 30 overs, you know you are going to have a long-long day. He played ball better than anyone else and also left it better than all,” said Donald told YouTube channel Cricket Life Stories.

We had to be aggressive against Brian Lara to stop him: Allan Donald

Former West Indies skipper Brian Lara was Tendulkar’s on-field nemesis and both batsmen were compared with their techniques and scoring abilities during their cricket years. Donald said Lara was another batsman he and his team had to be very aggressive while playing against him.

“Another Genius, Lara, the best stroke maker I’ve ever played against. He had a great back lift and could play very aggressively. We had to be very aggressive against him too to make him stop. He could also play some of the most unique shots which were actually laughable but he carried them with great spend as he had superb pair of hands,” concluded Donald.

Donald was the bowling coach of the South Africa cricket team and IPL franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Currently, he is the head coach of the VKB Knights franchise.
