Mitchell Marsh at his best. Against the inform bowling line-up of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), the experienced Australian smashed a confident century for the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) tonight at the Ekana Cricket Stadium.
At the beginning of the innings, Marsh was looking in good form. He carried the momentum and transformed into a magnificent century. A much-needed knock from the batter, for the team as well.
A statement-making century by Mitchell Marsh
Since the beginning of the IPL 2026 season, LSG has been struggling with its opening combinations. For tonight’s match, they formed the opening pair with Marsh and an uncapped Indian batter, Arshin Kulkarni. So far, it has been a one-man show in Lucknow, Mitchell Marsh at central of the stage.
Marsh needed only 48 balls to complete the 100-run mark. It was the fastest century score by batters for the Lucknow Super Giants in the history of the league. He smashed a four off the RCB seamer Roamrio Shepherd to complete the century.
On the fourth ball of the 14th over of the first innings of the match, Marsh hammered Shepherd for a boundary. It was 132.7kph delivery by the seamer, a full toss outside off. Marsh got plenty of time to adjust himself. When the ball came into the range of the batter, he opened the face of the blade and drove the ball down the ground through the point cordon for a four. Throughout the knock, he never looked in discomfort or tricked massively by any opposing bowlers. A well-crafted hundred by the LSG batter.
The pitch was not a batter's paradise
Ahead of the match, the experts predicted that the spinner could get assistance from the deck, as there were cracks and very little grass on top. Additionally, it is a black soil pitch, so pacers were also expected to do well in the match.
“Finchy, you reckon this might have a little more for the bowlers and spinners, especially because of the abrasiveness? Spinners especially. I think if the fast bowlers can find that really good hard length, one where it's so accustomed to Josh Hazelwood, Avesh Khan, those types of bowlers finding, that'll be difficult for batters, particularly in those middle phases of the game,” Deep Dasgupta told this to Aaron Finch from the pitch side.
