Left-arm seamer Arshdeep Singh has revealed his reactions when Suryakumar Yadav took the historic catch in the T20 World Cup 2024 final against South Africa. With 16 needed off 6 balls, David Miller was on strike while Hardik Pandya had the ball in hand.

Hardik went for a wide yorker but it ended up being a wide full toss, which Miller hit high in the air. For a moment, it seemed like the ball would clear the boundary ropes but Suryakumar Yadav, stationed at long off, took a sensational juggling catch to turn the tide in India's favor.

Arshdeep Singh speaks on Suryakumar Yadav's sensational catch

While speaking to The Indian Express, Arshdeep Singh revealed the whole situation during the catch. Earlier, it seemed the ball would cross the ropes but suddenly, it started to dip.

"My heart was pounding. I was standing at sweeper cover. I got the perfect side-angle view. When Miller connected, I thought it would go the distance but like in a movie it started to dip. The way Surya bhai (Suryakumar Yadav) judged the catch… As he said in the post-match interviews he just wanted to save the six, but then he realised that he had the chance to take that catch," Arshdeep said.

Arshdeep lauded Suryakumar for risking the catch despite knowing he can touch the ropes. Miller was the last recognized batter in South Africa's line-up and with his wicket, South Africa's hopes almost ended.

Hardik Pandya successfully defended the target as India completed a thrilling 7-run win. Suryakumar Yadav didn't have a good day with the bat but took the most important catch of his life to help India clinch the trophy.

"Treat it like any other match" - Rohit Sharma's words before the final

When asked about any nerves before the big match, Arshdeep Singh responded that there were no nerves and that he had a good sleep before the match. He also stated Rohit Sharma's words to treat the final just like any other match.

"Before the final, I had the best sleep of my life. I woke up fresh. There were no sleepless nights. There was nothing (on nerves before the final). In the team meeting, Rohit bhai specifically said that we treat it like any other match. ‘Yes the occasion is big but we will treat it like a normal day. Do your routines.’ That was the clear message," Arshdeep revealed.

Arshdeep Singh bowled an excellent spell of 2-20 in the final and helped India win the trophy. He bowled the penultimate over of the match and gave away just 4 runs to help his team tighten its grip on the match.

Overall, Arshdeep Singh had a memorable T20 World Cup with 17 wickets in 8 matches at an average of 12.64. He finished as the joint-highest wicket-taker of the tournament along with Fazalhaq Farooqi.

Meanwhile, India's pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah picked up 15 wickets in 8 matches at an outstanding economy rate of 4.17. Bumrah was adjudged the Player of the Tournament.
