Shai Hope has been in brilliant form since the beginning of the ongoing white-ball series against India in India. West Indies cricket team, the former world champions, stunned the world by defeating the Shreyas Iyer-led team in a record run chase. Shai Hope's explosive century helped the touring team to win the match and turned the 5-match T20I series scoreline 1-1 after the first two matches.

After the India vs West Indies 2nd T20I match, former England captain Kevin Pietersen made a huge claim on his social media platform 'X'. According to the post, there could be multiple interests for the West Indies captain during the IPL players' auction.

Kevin Pietersen on Shai Hope ahead of IPL 2026 mini auction

Ahead of the IPL 2027 season, there will be a mini auction. The auction is expected to be held in India, unlike abroad, during this year's festive season. Time, date, and venue for the mini auction are yet to be announced. Kevin Pietersen, in his 'X' post, stated that if Hope registers himself for the IPL mini-auction, multiple franchises may like to cash in on the in-form batter.

“If Shai Hope puts his name into the IPL mini-auction, there might be some paddles in the air from a few tables,” Pietersen wrote on X.

The 32-year-old top-order batter has played five matches, three ODIs and three T20Is, so far in India in his series. In five matches, Shai Hope has registered three centuries and one half-century.

Hope's innings in this tour vs India:
102* vs India in Ranchi, October 9, 2nd T20I
52 vs India in Lucknow, October 6, 1st T20I
162* vs India in New Chandigarh, October 3, 3rd ODI
104 vs India in Guwahati, September 30, Guwahati
12 vs India in Thiruvananthapuram, September 27

Shai Hope played for Delhi Capitals before

Despite proving himself as one of the most destructive batters in the limited-overs formats, Hope's experience in the Indian Premier League is very limited. He has so far featured in only one IPL season.

Hope scored 183 runs in 9 matches for the Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2024 season. It remains his only IPL campaign so far in his career. Will he consider making a return to the league? It will be interesting to see as multiple franchises are shuffling their set-ups.

West Indies surpassed India's 249-run total

Talking about the India vs West Indies 2nd T20I match in Ranchi, which was played on October 9, India scored 249 runs with Sanju Samson's 82 runs from 41 balls. Hope was a bit slow at the start of the run chase but accelerated soon after receiving proper support from the opposite end of the crease.

Sherfane Rutherford 84 off 37 and Romariao Shepherd's unbeaten 34 off 13 were a crucial part of the run chase. Rutherford and Shepherd got the licence to take the aerial route, as Hope was there as a well-set batter. He remained unbeaten for 102 runs.
