Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) is all set to face a major blow ahead of IPL 2025 Qualifier 1 against Punjab Kings (PBKS) on Thursday, May 29, at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Chandigarh.

RCB has already been sweating over Josh Hazlewood’s fitness, and now Tim David is also unlikely to feature in Qualifier 1 against PBKS. Tim David picked up a hamstring injury during RCB’s IPL 2025 league match against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

The incident happened in the final over of SRH’s innings when David tried to stop a boundary and pulled up in pain while sprinting. The Australian power hitter is all but ruled out of the Qualifier 1 clash, as he was seen limping at the airport. In the viral video, Tim David can be seen limping while carrying his luggage at the airport, which hints that he will miss Qualifier 1.

The viral video suggested that the RCB team was leaving for Chandigarh on May 28. His absence would be a big setback for Royal Challengers Bengaluru, who were banking on his finishing power in the high-stakes encounter against the Punjab Kings.

Notably, the Singaporean cricketer has so far played 12 matches in the ongoing IPL 2025 and scored 187 runs with the help of one fifty at the blistering strike rate of 185.15. He was signed by the Royal Challengers Bengaluru for INR 3 crore at the mega auction for his dangerous match-finishing ability.

Fireworks expected in Qualifier 1 as RCB and PBKS chase first IPL crown

Meanwhile, both Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru are still chasing their first-ever IPL trophy. PBKS reached the playoffs for the first time since 2014. That year, they were table-toppers but lost in the IPL 2014 final to Kolkata Knight Riders.

On the other hand, RCB made frequent playoff appearances in recent years. However, they haven't finished in the top two since 2016, when they made it to the final and lost the trophy to Sunrisers Hyderabad. In the IPL 2025, PBKS have leaned heavily on their lesser-known Indian talents, while RCB have shifted away from relying solely on big international names.

Their captain Rajat Patidar and vice-captain Jitesh Sharma have player very handful matches for India. Well, both teams have strong batting line up. Virat Kohli is the leading run scorer for RCB this season with 608 runs at a strike rate of nearly 148, while Shreyas Iyer isn’t far behind with 514 runs at an even more aggressive strike rate of 171.9.

Virat Kohli will be PBKS' biggest threat in Chandigarh

However, Kohli might have a mental edge going into the big game, as Iyer has struggled at the New Chandigarh ground this season, scoring just 25 runs across four innings. He also doesn’t have a great record against RCB.

In their last game, Kohli made an unbeaten 73 and won the Player of the Match award in Chandigarh. After that match, the Indian cricket superstar turned to Iyer with an animated celebration that sparked a bit of drama, which didn’t really amuse the PBKS captain.
