In a heartwarming gesture, New Zealand seamer Tim Southee has put up his WTC-winning jersey- signed by the entire team- on TradeMe in the hope of raising funds for the eight-year-old Hollie Beattie.
Beattie, 8, was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer called neuroblastoma back in 2018.
Tim Southee revealed that he got to know about Hollie’s story a couple of years ago through the cricket community and since then he has been looking for ways to help her out.
“My family first learned about Hollie’s story a couple of years ago through the cricket community and I have always been struck by the Beattie family’s perseverance, strength and positive attitude,” Tim Southee said on the jersey’s auction page.
“Since hearing that Hollie required more treatment I have been trying to find a way to support in some small way,” he added.
Southee, who claimed a total of 5 wickets in the World Test Championship final including 4 crucial scalps in the second innings, is hopeful that the shit will help contribute in some way to the family in getting the desired medical treatment for Hollie.
“I am hopeful that this shirt can help contribute in some way to the Beattie family’s ongoing medical needs as Hollie continues to fight. As a parent my heart goes out to them as they battle on.” Tim Southee added.
