Cricketer-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra reacted to Ravichandran Ashwin reviewing a review in the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2023. He said that his small matter put the league on the world map and said that it wasted a lot of time as nothing changed.
Battling the jet lag after ICC World Test Championship Final, Ravichandran Ashwin stepped into the field for Dindigul Dragons in the TNPL 2023 against Ba11sy Trich. While his performance was one thing that made many laud him, he managed to hogg the headlines with a unique thing.

The decision by the third umpire didn’t amaze Ravichandran Ashwin, who pulled out the unique thing that made almost everyone talk about it. The off-spinner reviewed the review to counter the third umpire’s decision. But it didn’t make any difference the decision stayed on.

Aakash Chopra lauded the umpire for going through the proper protocols. Shedding light on Ravichandran Ashwin’s unique antics in the TNPL 2023, he said in a video posted on his youtube channel.
“Ashwin anna’s small matter has brought TNPL to the world map. He was bowling very well, had picked up a wicket, and there was an appeal for another wicket where the umpire gave it out.”
“Ashwin and everyone were happy but the batter asked for a review. The third umpire was very good. He followed the protocol, checked all angles, and figured out that the ball had not reached the bat when the spike came because of the bat hitting the ground. Well done, he umpired very well and said it was not out.”

Aakash Chopra further went on to say that the incident was beyond his understanding ad one cannot review a review. He pointed out that the off-spinner asked the umpire to the judge. He explained:
“Ashwin said he wanted to review it again. He reviewed a review and it happened as well. It is beyond my understanding. I feel when the TNPL officials look back, they will say that this option was not available.”
You can’t do it. There are multiple reasons for that – you need to take the review within 15 seconds. The review was taken and the third umpire told, with all due diligence, what his thinking was. Now you are reviewing the third umpire’s thinking and asking him only to be the judge.”
Ravichandran Ashwin has been in the headlines for a while now. He was dropped from the Indian 11 for the ICC World Test Championship. The move of the management wasn’t liked by many as they supported him and lashed out at the team.
