Former Indian skipper and star batter Virat Kohli has revealed his greatest Test knock in Australia during his illustrious career on Monday, November 18. Virat Kohli picked the century against Australia in the Test match in Perth during the 2018-19 Test series as his favorite knock in Test cricket in Australia.
Kohli loves playing against Australia and boasts promising numbers in Tests against them. However, the right-handed batter has been going through poor form before the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25. He scored just 93 runs in six innings during India's 0-3 whitewash against New Zealand.
Virat Kohli Reveals His Best Knock in Australia
During the headshot photo sessions, Indian players had a lighthearted moment by asking each other questions before the highly anticipated Test series against Australia, which is set to begin on November 22 in Perth. The player whose photo was taken would ask a question to the next player in line.
In a video uploaded by the BCCI titled "Ask the Next One," Virat Kohli was asked by his teammate Mohammed Siraj about his best knock in Australia. Kohli picked up his century at Perth during the 2018-19 series, adding that it was the toughest pitch he had batted on in Test cricket.
"My best knock in Australia will definitely be my 100 at Perth. 2018-19 series that we played. I thought that was the toughest pitch that I played on in Test cricket. It was great to get a hundred on that tour," Kohli said.
Virat Kohli Became First Indian Captain to Win Test Series in Australia
Only four Indian batters, including Sunil Gavaskar, Mohinder Amarnath, Sachin Tendulkar, and Kohli, have scored a century in Test matches in Perth. Kohli scored 123 runs during the 2018-19 series. It’s worth mentioning that Perth is known for being one of the fastest and bounciest pitches in the world.
However, India lost the Test match by an innings and 146 runs in Perth. The visiting team then bounced back to win the Melbourne Test and the series. Notably, it was their first-ever Test victory in Australia. Virat Kohli made history as the first Indian captain to lead the team to a Test series win in Australia.
Kohli toured Australia for the first time during the 2011-12 series. The right-handed batter has scored 1,352 runs in 13 Tests at an average of 54.08, including six centuries and four fifties. Overall, he has scored 2,042 runs in 25 Tests against Australia at an average of 47.48, with eight centuries and five fifties.
