With the firepower in modern T20 cricket, there is a possibility of a team reaching the 300-run mark in an innings in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. Sunrisers Hyderabad’s aggressive batters Travis Head and Heinrich Klaasen opened up about their approach to scoring 300 for the first time in IPL history.

Before IPL 2024, the highest team total in history was Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) 263/5 against Pune Warriors in 2013. However, this record was surpassed four times in 2024. Teams crossed the 250-run mark eight times last year, with Sunrisers Hyderabad scoring 287/3 against Royal Challengers.

As Long as We're Winning, I'm Happy - Travis Head

In a video shared on the IPL website, Travis Head expressed his excitement about returning to Sunrisers Hyderabad. He stated that training at the ground brought back great memories. Head added that he is not concerned about the 300-run record as long as they are winning.

"It's nice to be back. This is a great feeling. Somewhere where we played really well last year. Being out here and training again and getting a feel for the ground. It brings back some good memories and hopefully, we can continue that. (On 300 runs) It's what everyone else wants. Spoke about it a bit last year and whatnot, but as long as we're winning, I'm happy," Head said.

Travis Head said that Heinrich Klaasen's presence provides confidence to the top-order batters. He highlighted that the openers will play their natural game.

"Having him (Klaasen) there gives us good confidence and means we can go out and play our game. It's great support for us knowing that there are guys in the sheds that can come if things don't go well at the top of the order," Travis Head added.

A Good Chance of Reaching 300 - Heinrich Klaasen

When asked about the possibility of scoring 300 runs in an IPL innings, Heinrich Klaasen admitted that with the right top-order batters, the milestone could be achievable.

"Obviously a very nice feeling as a team once again after a couple of years. So, yeah, very blessed and in a fortunate position and looking forward to the season to start," Klaasen said.

"Look, if there's a batting lineup that can do it with those three up front, you can definitely be at a good chance of reaching it. 300," he added.

T20 Cricket Has Witnessed 300-Run Totals Before

Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma showcased their explosive batting last season. They chased down 166 runs in just 9.4 overs against Lucknow Super Giants. Head scored 567 runs in 15 matches at an impressive average of 40.5 and a staggering strike rate of 190, including a century and four half-centuries.

A 300-run total has been reached in T20 cricket before—three times in men's and five times in women's matches. However, it has yet to happen between top-tier teams. India narrowly missed the milestone against Bangladesh last year, and Sunrisers Hyderabad came close to reaching it twice in IPL 2024.
