Travis Head Bought By SRH For 6.80 Crores In IPL Auction 2024

Australia’s World Cup hero Travis Head will make his much-awaited return to IPL next year and ply his trade for Sunrisers Hyderabad after the franchise secured his services for Rs 6.80 crores in the ongoing IPL auction 2024. The southpaw has not played in the IPL since 2017.

To everyone’s surprise, the franchises initially showed no interest in the Australian as the auctioneer kept calling his name before Sunrisers Hyderabad started the bid at Rs 2 crores. Chennai Super Kings soon joined the bidding as Travis Head became the second player after Rovman Powell in the auction to touch the 5 crores mark. At Rs 6.80 crores, Chennai Super Kings pulled out of the race.

The Australia star was widely expected to earn a lucrative IPL deal after his impressive shows in international cricket in the last couple of years. After impressing in Tests for Australia, the left-handed batsman etched his name in ODI folklore by starring in the World Cup last month.

In just 6 games, he scored 329 runs at an average of over 54 and a strike rate of more than 127. He smashed two centuries and one half-century in the competition. His best knock of the tournament came in the final against India when he scored a brilliant match-winning century that helped Australia recover from 47 for 3 and chase down 241 to clinch a record-extending sixth World Cup title.

Before the World Cup heroics, Travis Head had also scored a brilliant counterattacking century against India in the World Test Championship final. It was followed by a fine outing in the Ashes too. Travis Head is not new to playing in the IPL although he is yet to make a mark in the competition.

The southpaw had plied his trade for Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2016 and 2017. In those two seasons, he had played 10 games and scored 205 runs at an average of 29.29 and a strike rate of almost 140.
