Ahead of the series against Bangladesh, Australia's National Cricket Team's dynamic batter Travis Head opened up about his batting role for the Tests. Australia will face Bangladesh for a couple of Tests in the series; ahead of that, Head's batting position generated curiosity among the cricket fans and experts.
For most of his Test career, Head mostly performed as a middle-order batter, but he changed the overall perspective about his batting overnight after the Ashes 2025-26 against England, when he performed brilliantly as an opener. That's been the question straightaway placed in front of the batter. The Ashes 2025-26 was a one-sided contest; Australia outplayed their arch-rival England with pure dominance. Travis Head single-handedly took on the English bowlers to help the Aussies to establish their authority in the major part of the series.
In five matches of the prestigious Test series, the 32-year-old smashed three centuries: 123 in Perth, 170 in Adelaide and a 192-run knock in Sydney. Australia is scheduled to host Bangladesh in Darwin and Mackay for the first and second Test respectively. The series will begin on August 13.
Travis Head to play again as an opener in the next Ashes?
While the journalist asked Head about his batting position for the series against Bangladesh, the experienced batter mentioned that he enjoyed batting as an opener and would take on any responsibility the team asked of him. As of now, there is no confirmation of whether he will play as an opener or not.
“Yeah, I think I can work. If I've done it for 20 tests, if we're sitting there in a few years and I've finished and I've opened the batting the whole time, I would have done an okay job at it, would have been consistent hopefully and contributed and had a good partnership with Jake. Yeah, I feel like it works.”
Travis Head told the reporters when he was asked, "Do you see yourself still doing it when that 20-test is over in conditions like England? Do you think you can work there too?"
Travis Head is curious for the series against South Africa
After the completion of the Bangladesh Test series, Australia will face South Africa in an away series, where they may have to face more stiff challenge. More than the matches against Bangladesh, Head sounded more curious about the South Africa tour. With a string of preparations, the versatile batter is looking forward to taking on new challenges.
“I'm just going to continue to work hard at what I do and try and be as consistent as I can at it. A new challenge is coming here and a new challenge when we go to South Africa in a month's time, so I'm looking forward to that challenge,” he added.

In the 2025-26 season, the left-hander scored 629 runs in 5 matches and 10 innings, averaging 62.90 with three centuries. He will try his best to carry on the momentum against Bangladesh and South Africa as well. In 2-team Test series, Head’s overall batting average is 43.47, supported by eleven 100s and twenty 50s.
