Australia opening batter Travis Head is likely to miss the final two T20Is of the ongoing five-match series against the Suryakumar Yadav-led team at home. The left-handed batter will focus on preparing for the upcoming Ashes 2025 series against England rather than the final two matches against India.

Australia secured a four-wicket victory in the second T20I at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Friday, October 31. The hosts chased the 126-run target inside 14 overs. With the victory, the Mitchell Marsh-led side took a 1-0 lead in the five-match series. The opening match was washed out due to rain.

"As a key pillar of Australia’s Ashes campaign, Travis Head is mulling withdrawing himself from the final two T20I matches against India to focus on his red ball preparation," Code Sports wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter).

Head didn’t get a chance to bat in the series opener, as the match was abandoned due to rain. The left-handed batter scored 28 runs off 15 balls, including three fours and one six, at a strike rate of 186.67.

He Just Said, 'Go and Enjoy' - Abhishek Sharma

Abhishek Sharma and Head, who played together for Sunrisers Hyderabad, are now facing each other in the ongoing India-Australia T20I series. The two were spotted chatting and laughing on the field during the second match.

Speaking after Australia’s four-wicket win, Abhishek Sharma was asked about his light-hearted exchange with Travis Head. Sharma stated that he tried to get some insight from Head about the pitch and his approach. He revealed that Head told him to enjoy himself out in the middle.

"I was trying because I knew he’s not going to give me anything. He’s the kind of batter who doesn’t think too much, but still, I was asking him a bit about the pitch and how he was going to perform. He just said, ‘Go and enjoy,’" Abhishek said.

Josh Hazlewood Pick of Bowlers for Australia in 2nd T20I vs India

Australia defeated India by four wickets in Melbourne to take a 1–0 lead in the series. Mitchell Marsh scored 46 off 26 balls, while Travis Head amassed 28 off 15 as the hosts comfortably chased down the 125-run target with 40 balls remaining.

For India, Varun Chakaravarthy, Kuldeep Yadav, and Jasprit Bumrah took two wickets apiece, but the total proved far too small to defend.

Earlier, India were dismantled by Josh Hazlewood’s fiery spell of 3 for 13. Hazlewood triggered a top-order collapse inside the powerplay. Only Abhishek Sharma (68 off 37) and Harshit Rana (35 off 33) offered resistance. Xavier Bartlett and Nathan Ellis picked up two wickets each.
