The Australia team suffered another massive setback on Day 5 of the ongoing third Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 against the Rohit Sharma-led Indian team. Middle-order batter Travis Head suffered a groin injury and didn’t even field for 10 minutes in India's second innings.

Travis Head was the hero for Australia in the second Test, where his team secured a 10-wicket victory and leveled the series 1-1 in the five-match series. The left-handed batter continued his dominance in the third match as well. He scored his second consecutive century in the first innings of the third Test.

Australia has already lost Josh Hazlewood for the rest of the series, and now Travis Head is dealing with a groin injury, which was noticed by Brett Lee while doing the commentary. Head’s injury is a major concern, especially since he couldn’t field for more than 10 minutes, as Brad Haddin pointed out.

The latest update as per Cricket.com.au - "An Australian team spokesperson insists it is incorrect that Head has a groin injury."

That's the Last Thing Australia Want - Ravi Shastri

Travis Head showed signs of struggling with his groin while batting with Alex Carey, often clutching his groin and moving uncomfortably. Head didn’t field during India’s second innings. Ravi Shastri described the situation as a "body blow" for Australia, with only a week until the Boxing Day Test.

"Worrying signs ... he wasn't moving freely," Brett Lee said on Fox Cricket.

"This whole series is on the line and that's the last thing Australia want ... let's hope it's a niggle and seven days is enough," Shastri said.

This is a Bigger Loss Than Josh Hazlewood - Brad Haddin

Head's injury adds to Australia's troubles after Josh Hazlewood was ruled out of the series due to a calf injury. Brad Haddin stated that Head’s potential absence would be a bigger blow, as he has been Australia’s best batter in the ongoing series.

"It doesn't look good ... this is a bigger loss than Josh Hazlewood, if Travis Head is out of this series (it's huge), he's been the one shining light with the bat. He's very reluctant to stretch out and that's really bad signs for the Aussies," Brad Haddin said.

The five-match series is currently tied 1-1. India won the first Test by 295 runs, while Australia responded with a dominant 10-wicket victory in the second. The third match ended in a draw, as both teams decided to call time due to unfavorable conditions.

The fourth Test match between India and Australia will be played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Melbourne, starting on Thursday, December 26. The winning team in the upcoming match can't lose the series.
