Australian opener Travis Head took a dig at South Africa captain Temba Bavuma on Instagram after Australia secured a 214-run victory in the first Test. Head shared an AI-generated meme showing Bavuma reacting with disbelief to Australia's scorecard and Josh Hazlewood's match-winning bowling figures.
The defeat ended Bavuma's unbeaten record as South Africa's Test captain, which had lasted 12 matches since he took charge in February 2023. Australia, led by Pat Cummins, also took a 1-0 lead in the ongoing three-match series. Notably, South Africa defeated Australia in the World Test Championship (WTC) final.
Travis Head Shares AI-Generated Meme of Temba Bavuma
Travis Head shared a five-second AI-generated video on his Instagram Stories featuring Temba Bavuma in South Africa's Test whites. Bavuma's expression changed to shock and disbelief after he noticed the match scorecard.
The graphic displayed Australia's scores of 390 and 314/6 declared, alongside South Africa's totals of 284 and 206. It also highlighted Hazlewood's bowling figures of 6/49 from 16.5 overs, including four maidens.
The video then cut to a dimly lit arena bathed in blue light, where a crowd cheered as Hazlewood danced under a spotlight in slow motion. The clip used the Australian pacer's performance to poke fun at Bavuma following South Africa's defeat.

Josh Hazlewood and Matt Renshaw Star in Australia's Durban Win
Australia dominated the opening Test after posting 390 in the first innings. South Africa replied with 284 before the visitors declared their second innings at 314/6 to set the hosts a target of 421 runs.
Matt Renshaw played a key role with the bat, rescuing Australia from 84/4 with an unbeaten 190 in the first innings. He followed it with 82 runs in the second innings to help the visitors establish a match-winning lead.
Hazlewood then led Australia's attack on the final day, taking 6/49 as South Africa collapsed for 206 despite Aiden Markram's fighting half-century. The fast bowler had taken 2/54 in the first innings, finishing with eight wickets for 103 runs in the match.
Renshaw also contributed with the ball, claiming 2/30, while captain Pat Cummins and Nathan Lyon took one wicket each. Australia secured the victory in their first Test appearance in South Africa since the 2018 ball-tampering scandal, widely known as Sandpapergate.
Temba Bavuma Reacts to First Test Defeat as South Africa Captain
Temba Bavuma had enjoyed an impressive start to his captaincy, winning 11 of his first 12 Tests in charge, with the other match ending in a draw against the West Indies. The loss in Durban marked his first defeat as South Africa's Test captain in his 13th match in the role.
After the match, Bavuma acknowledged Australia's superior performance and admitted that his side had plenty to discuss before the next Test.
“It’s not the way you want to start. You’ve got to give it to the Australians, the way they dominated the majority of the game," Temba Bavuma said. "The way they stuck into us."
"And I think, for a lot of us who’ve had the experience of playing against them, you don’t want to give them that opportunity to play the game from the front. So there are a lot of questions and conversations that we’ll need to have."
"We can learn from the way they went about it from a batting and bowling point of view, but I think you’ve got to give it to them in terms of their performance," he added.
Australia will aim to extend their advantage and seal the series in the second Test, which begins on October 18 at St George's Park in Gqeberha. Temba Bavuma's side, meanwhile, will look to bounce back after their batting collapse and level the series on home soil.
