Tushar Deshpande claimed a hat-trick for Mumbai against Chandigarh in their Ranji Trophy Elite 2026-27 Group D match at the Wankhede Stadium on October 12. The right-arm pacer dismissed three batters in consecutive deliveries during Chandigarh's first innings, giving Mumbai an important breakthrough.

Tushar Deshpande completed the hat-trick in the 11th over, removing Arjun Azad, Shivam Bhambri and Dipender Kush. His spell came after Mumbai had posted 429 runs in their first innings, with several batters making substantial contributions on the opening two days.

Deshpande struck on the third, fourth and fifth deliveries of the 11th over to complete his hat-trick. Arjun Azad was the first to depart, caught by Sylvester D'Souza for 20 off 33 balls. The bowler then clean-bowled Shivam Bhambri for a first-ball duck before Dipender Kush was caught by Yashasvi Jaiswal, also for a duck.

The sequence left Chandigarh in trouble as Mumbai looked to build on their first-innings total. Deshpande's hat-trick was particularly notable because it included two wickets without a run being scored by the incoming batters.

At the time of writing, Tushar Deshpande had four wickets, including the three consecutive dismissals. He also accounted for Rohit Dhanda, who scored 48, as Chandigarh attempted to respond to Mumbai's total. Raj Bawa was at the crease after the hat-trick, with Deshpande conceding no run on the final delivery of the over.

Mumbai piled up 429 runs in their first innings

Mumbai finished their first innings at 429 all out in 136.5 overs, scoring at 3.14 runs per over. Siddhesh Lad led the innings with 86 off 192 balls, while Musheer Khan made 65 from 149 deliveries.

Tanush Kotian added 58 off 91 balls, and Mohit Avasthi remained the last batter dismissed after scoring 56 from 119 deliveries. Ayush Mhatre contributed 48, while Shams Mulani scored 39 and Tushar Deshpande added 44 off 47 balls, including four fours and two sixes.

Chandigarh's bowlers shared the wickets, with Rohit Dhanda and Raj Bawa taking four each. Mumbai's substantial total gave their bowling attack a strong platform, and Deshpande's burst added to the pressure on Chandigarh's batting lineup.

He followed that with 17 wickets in 13 matches in 2024, also for CSK, including his best figures of 4/27. In IPL 2025, playing for Rajasthan Royals, Deshpande took nine wickets in 10 matches.
