Wasim Akram has contradicted Kevin Pietersen's suggestion for Virat Kohli after the former India skipper failed to win the IPL title again.

The right-handed batsman enjoyed yet another prolific season with the bat but his efforts were not enough for Royal Challengers Bengaluru to win their maiden IPL title. Kohli finished the season as the leading run-scorer although he failed to take RCB to the title.

In a season where no other batsman has even managed to touch the 600-run mark so far, Kohli finished his campaign with an impressive 741 runs in 15 games. He hit one century and five half-centuries and scored his runs at a brilliant average of 61.75 and a strike-rate of almost 155.

With Kohli's efforts going in vain once again, Kevin Pietersen has advised him to leave RCB and play for another franchise in order to win his maiden IPL title. The former England captain stated that several greats of the game in other sports have switched teams for glory and Kohli should do the same as well. Pietersen stated that Kohli deserved the IPL trophy and should play in a team where he can finally win it.

"I have said it before and I will say it again -- the greats of the game in other sports, have left teams to go and seek glory somewhere else. When he has tried and tried so hard -- won the Orange Cap yet again and done so much yet again and the franchise fails again.

"I understand for the brand of the team and the commercial value he brings to the team... But Virat Kohli deserves a trophy. He deserves to play in a team that could help him to get that trophy," Pietersen had said on Star Sports.

Wasim Akram on Kevin Pietersen's suggestion for Virat Kohli:

Wasim Akram has come up with a strong rebuttal to Kevin Pietersen's suggestion for Virat Kohli. The former Pakistan captain called his response 'strict' as he started by saying that 'all these foreign ex-players tweet about everything related to India' before saying that Kohli should stay with RCB and try to win the trophy.

"I've a very strict answer. Kevin is a very good friend of mine. All these foreign ex-players, who do the commentary, they tweet about everything related to India. I'm all for it... it's probably right but it's not a big deal for me.

"It's a big deal for Kohli, maybe. He wants to win for RCB, what would changing the team do for him, then? He wants to win for RCB, that's his call. That's my opinion. I don't want to speak on everything, that's what I've learned," Akram told Sportskeeda.

Kohli has been playing for RCB since the inaugural season in 2008 but is yet to lay his hands on the coveted trophy. As far as individual performance is concerned, he is the most decorated batsman in the history of the tournament. No player has scored more runs than him in the tournament. While no player has even managed to reach 7000 runs so far, he has already breached the 8000-run mark.
