UAE vs NZ: Muhammad Waseem To Lead UAE Squad In Upcoming T20I Series Vs New Zealand

Right-handed batsman, Muhammad Waseem has been named as the new skipper of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) new T20I skipper and will lead the team in the upcoming three-match 20-over series against New Zealand which will start on Thursday (August 17).

The Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) revealed the T20I squad which will face New Zealand in the T20I series and announced that Muhammad Waseem will lead the squad.

The squad has many talented players who can turn around a match such as Vriitya Aravind, Aayan Afzal Khan, Basil Hameed, Ethan D’Souza, Faraazuddin, Jash Giyanani, Zahoor Khan, and Junaid Siddique. Their presence will help UAE keep their domination in front of their home crowd.

Young talented players have been included in the squad as well. Such as Asif Ali who scored the fastest century in the 50-over format for an Associate nation earlier this year has been named in the 16-member squad and is set to make his debut for the United Arab Emirates against New Zealand.

Other players such as Faraazuddin and Jash Giyanani showcased a stupendous performance in domestic cricket and earned their spot in the squad.

Muhammad Waseem to takeover CP Rizwan’s responsibilities as the skipper of UAE in the T20I

The United Arab Emirates are set to play their first T20I match after six months against New Zealand. The Middle Eastern country last played the 20-over format cricket on February 2023 against Afghanistan and lost the match by six wickets.

CP Rizwan led the squad then and the authorities expect the changes will bring good results to the table.

The change of the captaincy in UAE’s T20I squad is taking place after one year, as CP Rizwan was first named as the skipper in August 2023, following which he led the team in 11 20-over matches and won only three matches and conceded eight games.

Even though CP Rizwan led the squad when United Arab Emirates clinched a win against Namibia in the T20 World Cup but still the team management changed the captain.
