The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) could send a B Team for the upcoming Asian Games in Japan. In a few previous reports, it was suggested that the board was not happy about the preparations by the organizers for the multi-sport event. Keeping an eye on the preparations of the event, BCCI could send its second team to Japan.
To fetch the best possible result in the tournament as the defending champions, BCCI named a star-studded team, with all of their first team players. It was also assumed that to ensure the first spot in the medal race, the Indian cricket board could send the best possible team to Aichi-Nagoya.

A source close to the developments in Japan regarding the Asian Games told the news agency ANI that both the BCCI and the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) are not happy about the facilities and arrangements for the participants. The Asian Games are scheduled to begin on September 1; ahead of the event opener, the board is expected to send an observer. The board could decide the team based on the report submitted by the observer.
"BCCI and ACC are not happy with the facilities and arrangements in Japan, and the board will send an observer there. The observer will submit its report to us, and if arrangements are not up to the mark, we could consider sending a B team there,” the source informed the news agency ANI.

The size of the rooms especially became a matter of dissatisfaction for the officials. The rooms were reportedly too tiny for a cricketer with his kit. The source also pointed out the washrooms as well, which were only 500m away from the tents which were allotted for the players in the games.
"We told the Japan Olympics officials during the ACC in a meeting that the dressing rooms were set up in tents and washrooms were just 500 m away from those tents, which has created an unsatisfactory situation for the players. Also, the hotel rooms are really small, and it is a big concern,” the source added.
Top names from India's original squad could be scrapped
According to the original plans, BCCI named Shreyas Iyer as captain and Tilak Varma as the vice-captain for the Asian Games 2026 with multiple other superstars like Jasprit Bumrah, Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan and a lot of other names.
Alongside the established names, the side contains emerging players like Vaibhav Sooryavanshi as well. The original plans are likely to be affected if the reports prove unsatisfactory to the board officials.
If the situation remains unchanged, then the board could take serious steps to restructure the team only for the Asian Games. The report, which is expected to be submitted by the observer, will be influential in the team selection. The future of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi in the tournament also will be confirmed after the report.
