The updated ICC World Test Championship Points Table has been released by the International Cricket Council after the conclusion of the third and final Test of the series between Ollie Pope-led England National Cricket Team and Dhananjaya de Silva-led Sri Lanka National Cricket Team.

England and Sri Lanka locked horns with each other at the Kennington Oval in London, and the third Test match ended on Day 4 (Monday, September 9).

The visitors won the toss and elected to bowl first in the game. They managed to remove Dan Lawrence early on in the innings but Ben Duckett punished them with brutal 86 runs. Ollie Pope was the only other batter who troubled Sri Lanka in the first innings as he slammed a terrific 154 runs to silence his critics. All the Lankan bowlers did a decent job in the innings and bowled out England for 325.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka, in their first innings, were, as usual, off to a poor start. They lost Dimuth Karunaratne, Kusal Mendis, Angelo Mathews, and Dinesh Chandimal for low scores. However, Pathum Nissanka (64 ), Kamindu Mendis (64), and Dhananjaya de Silva (69) saved their team from embarrassment by playing brilliant innings as they posted 263 runs on the board.

England had a great first-innings lead when the batters came out to bat next, and something special was required from the Lankan bowlers to ensure that their team got a gettable total to chase in the fourth innings.

The bowlers of the visiting team didn't disappoint and came up with a stunning performance. Barring Jamie Smith, they didn't let any batter settle in the middle and chipped in wickets at regular intervals, bundling out the hosts for just 156 runs.

Four bowlers were used by the visitors in the innings and all of them were among wickets - Lahiru Kumara (4), Vishwa Fernando (3), Asitha Fernando (2), and Milan Rathnayake (1).

Sri Lanka got a target of 219 to chase and they once again started poorly by losing Dimuth Karunaratne for just 8 runs. However, his opening partner, Pathum Nissanka, showed his class and batted with his true potential.

The young batter looked extremely confident in the middle and he played the attacking brand of cricket against the Bazballers. He didn't lose his focus and went on to slam a 107-ball ton. He kept batting brilliantly and finished with a score of 127* to steer Sri Lanka to a famous 8-wicket win in England.

This was the just fourth Test win for Sri Lanka on English soil, as they had earlier won in 1998 by 10 wickets, in 2006 by 134 runs, and in 2014 by 100 runs. The consolation win helped the Dhananjaya de Silva-led side avoid whitewash as the series ended 2-1 in England's favor.
