Shan Masood-led Pakistan National Cricket Team and Najmul Hossain Shanto-led Bangladesh National Cricket Team played the second and final Test match of the series at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. The second Test, which was part of the ongoing cycle of the ICC World Test Championship, ended on September 3 after four days of action.
Notably, the first day of the Test between the teams was completely washed out due to rain, and the action began on Day 2. The visitors won the toss and elected to bowl first before dismissing Abdullah Shafique for a 6-ball duck.
Saim Ayub (58) and Shan Masood (57) stabilized the innings after the loss of the first wicket and hit good fifties. However, as soon as they got dismissed, the hosts came under pressure and lost wickets at regular intervals. They ended up posting a total of 274 runs on the board, thanks to the half-century scored by Salman Agha (54). For the visiting team, Mehidy Hasan Miraz was the hero with his fifer.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh, in their first innings, were off to a nightmarish start with 6 batters back in the hut for the score of 26. That was when Litton Das and Mehidy Hasan Miraz showed their true class and bailed Bangladesh out of trouble.
They batted magnificently well and added 165 runs off 245 balls to bring Bangladesh back into the game and become the first pair in the history of Test cricket to score 150 runs for the seventh or lower wicket from a team total under 50 runs.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz scored 78 runs off 124 balls, with 12 fours and 1 six, while Litton Das smashed a remarkable 138 runs off 228 balls, with 13 fours and 4 sixes. Their heroics helped the Bangla Tigers post 262 runs on the board and Pakistan's hero in the innings was Khurram Shahzad with his 6-wicket haul.
Pakistan had a small lead when they came out to bat next and the batters once again failed to deliver. Abdullah Shafique scored 3 while nightwatchman. Khurram Shahzad bagged a duck.
Skipper Shan Masood scored a quick 28 runs but once again wasn't able to convert his start into a big score, while Babar Azam's struggle continued as he registered 11 runs. Then, Salman Agha (47*) and Mohammad Rizwan (43) chipped in with crucial contributions and took the team's total to 172 before Pakistan got all out.
Bangladesh got a small target of 185 runs to chase, and on day 4, Zakir Hasan and Shadman Islam took their team off to a great start, sharing a 42-run stand, before the play was called off due to bad light and rain.
On the final day, Bangladesh played quite conservative cricket and they took forward the things slowly. Openers Zakir Hasan and Shadman Islam were dismissed in the 13th and 18th overs while Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mominul Haque got out in the 38th and 44th overs.
In the end, the veterans Shakib Al Hasan (21*) and Mushfiqur Rahim (22*) got the job done and steered Bangladesh to a historic 6-wicket win to make it 2-0 in the series. Also, this was the first time in history that Bangladesh won a Test series against Pakistan.
