Team India, on Sunday (June 9), beat Pakistan by six runs in the 19th game of the ongoing ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024. The arch-rivals locked horns against each other at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York and played out a low-scoring thriller in front of a jam-packed stadium.

Pakistan won a good toss and elected to bowl first on a pitch where teams have struggled to post big totals. India were off to a disastrous start as their stalwarts Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma departed inside the powerplay. The Men in Blue, however, recovered quickly and were comfortably placed at 89 for 3 in the 12th over before suffering an inexplicable collapse.

The Rohit Sharma-led side lost four wickets in no time to find themselves reeling at 96 for 7 from 89 for 3. In the end, India were bowled out for 119 runs. Rishabh Pant was India's highest scorer as the wicketkeeper-batsman scored 42 while no other batter could score more than 20. For Pakistan, Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf picked up three wickets.

Jay Shah celebrates India's win:

Even though the pitch was tough for batting, not many were expecting India to win the game especially after Pakistan managed to keep their wickets intact. The Men in Green were on 80 for 3 at the end of the 14th over. With 40 runs needed in 36 balls and with seven wickets in hand, the game was Pakistan's to lose.

However, India's bowlers came up with an absolutely stunning display to restrict Pakistan to 113 for 7. Led by the ever-reliable Jasprit Bumrah, India's bowlers just did not let Pakistan off the hook in the last few overs. Barring Mohammad Rizwan, no other Pakistan batter could manage to score more than 15 runs.

And as India clinched victory from the jaws of defeat, BCCI secretary Jay Shah was seen in a never-seen-before avatar. The usually calm and composed Jay Shah looked absolutely pumped up after the stunning victory. Standing in the stands, Shah was seen celebrating the victory and was also seen encouraging the fans to make more noise.
