Australian all-rounder Cameron Green has seemingly apologised to Pakistan spinner Usman Tariq after a brief on-field controversy during the second T20 match in Lahore on Saturday, January 31. Tariq’s bowling action came under scrutiny following a gesture from Green, which sparked a chucking debate.

Green made a clear “chucking” gesture following his dismissal in the second match. Tariq’s action has been cleared twice by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). He responded by posting a video of a crying child on Instagram with the caption “After getting out,” a move that appeared to mock Green’s frustration.

Usman Tariq Posts “Apology Accepted” After Cameron Green’s Chucking Allegations

There has been no sign that the Australian team or the umpires filed a formal complaint about the bowling action of the 30-year-old spinner. On Monday, Usman Tariq posted “Apology accepted” on social media, a message that suggested Cameron Green had already said sorry to him.

Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha opened up about Cameron Green’s actions during his post-match press conference on Sunday. He stated that questioning a bowler’s action is not a player’s role and added that such matters should be handled by the match referee and the umpires.

“It’s not his job, it’s the responsibility of the match referee and the umpires,” Agha told reporters.

Not Many Things Worse Than Being Called a Chucker - Usman Khawaja on Usman Tariq

On Monday, Australian batter Usman Khawaja backed Tariq by posting an Instagram story. He asked fans to stay calm and avoid quick judgments about a bowler who is simply doing his job.

Khawaja said that being labelled a chucker can seriously damage a player’s career and pointed out that Tariq has already been cleared twice.

“There aren’t many things worse than being called a chucker in cricket. The stigma is real. The man is just doing his best and been cleared twice. Let’s have some perspective and understanding and stop jumping to conclusions,” he said in the post.

Usman Tariq’s Bowling Action Continues to Draw Attention

Usman Tariq has a unique bowling action, pausing just before release and delivering off-breaks with a slinging motion and a clear bend in his arm. The spinner has featured in several T20 leagues, including the Caribbean Premier League and the UAE’s ILT20.

Tariq has taken eight wickets in three T20Is at an average of 7.50 and an economy rate of 5.62. Despite his success, his action has been questioned more than once in domestic cricket.

While representing the Quetta Gladiators in the Pakistan Super League during the 2024 and 2025 seasons, umpires reported him twice for a suspected illegal action. On both occasions, he underwent biomechanical testing at Lahore’s National Cricket Academy and was cleared to continue bowling.

Under International Cricket Council rules, a bowler’s action is deemed illegal only if the elbow straightens by more than 15 degrees during the delivery stride, with natural hyperextension ignored.

However, doubts resurfaced after Pakistan’s four-wicket win over South Africa in November. Tariq later recorded a career-best spell of 4-18 against Zimbabwe in Rawalpindi, which included a hat-trick and earned him the player-of-the-match award.
