Ajinkya Rahane was dismissed again cheaply in the ongoing IPL 2026 season. In a match, when Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are in search of a must-needed win against the Mumbai Indians (MI) at the home ground, Eden Gardens, the skipper departs quickly.
It can be a huge blow for KKR as the pitch is a little bit tricky to bat on. The first innings of the KKR vs MI match was mostly dominated by the bowlers. Aggressive MI batters like Tilak Varma, Naman Dhir, and Ryan Rickelton proved ineffective against the KKR bowling attack.
KKR loses early wickets vs Mumbai Indians
On a surface where bowlers are getting some extra assistance, KKR needs something that can play an anchor role. Rahane could be the man, but he had to go for 21 off 17.
His opening partner, Finn Allen, also departed during the power play. The target is not huge, 148, but it is the pitch and the weather in Kolkata that have made the contest more interesting to watch.
Double strike for Corbin Bosch
Corbin Bosch was the bowler for the Mumbai Indians who caught Rahane defenseless on the fourth ball of the 6th over. It was a cross seam ball from the South African pacer, on the back of the length. The seamer got some extra bounce from the surface as well. Rahan intended to hammer the ball on the offside of the ground. His plans did not work as the ball angled in before going away, took the outside edge, and landed straight into the gloves of the wicket-keeper Ryan Rickelton. Rickelton caught the ball on his right side. A good display of bowling and keeping from the Mumbai Indians’ end.
The seamer struck again after a while. Corbin Bosch took Rahane’s wicket on the 6th over of the innings, and dismissed Cameron Green, who was looking in good touch, in the seventh over. The mood of the game changes suddenly. MI got a good chance to capture the front seat in the match. Manish Pandey and Rovman Powell are in the middle, keeping the hopes alive for the Kolkata Knight Riders.
