Young Indian prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi picked up 2 wickets in a single over for East Zone in the Duleep Trophy 2026 quarter-final. The 15-year-old dismissed Kishan Lyngdoh and Imliwati Lemtur in quick succession, putting North East Zone under pressure at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.
Sooryavanshi had a disappointing outing with the bat earlier in the match. The East Zone vice-captain faced only 6 balls before North East Zone pacer Bishworjit Konthoujam dismissed him in the first innings. However, he quickly made an impact with the ball, needing only 8 deliveries to claim his first wicket.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Picks Two Wickets In 4 Balls
Sooryavanshi claimed his 3rd First-Class wicket on the 2nd delivery of the 28th over. He bowled a three-quarter-length delivery outside off, tempting Kishan Lyngdoh to charge down the track.
Lyngdoh swung hard but lost his shape and hit a leading edge towards cover, where substitute fielder Denish Das completed a safe catch. Just 3 deliveries later, Sooryavanshi struck again to claim his 2nd wicket of the over.
He bowled a good-length delivery around off stump, and Imliwati Lemtur defended from the crease. Lemtur got a thin outside edge, and wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan reacted quickly to complete a sharp catch.

Shahbaz Ahmed and Abhijit Sarkar Put East in Command
East Zone strengthened their grip on the Duleep Trophy 2026 quarter-final against North East Zone after an all-round display from Shahbaz Ahmed. After resuming Day 2 on 355/6, East Zone added 112 runs and finished their first innings on 467. Shahbaz registered his career-best 167 off 244 balls.
Shahbaz also added 103 runs with Anukul Roy for the seventh wicket after Sudip Kumar Gharami had earlier scored 146. East Zone had been reduced to 138/5 on Day 1, but the middle and lower order rebuilt the innings strongly.
North East Zone collapsed from 72/2 to 111 all out, losing 8 wickets for just 39 runs. Arpit Bhatewara top-scored with 32, while Rongsen Jonathan made 21. Abhijit Sarkar led the bowling attack with 5/20 from 9.5 overs, while Shahbaz added 3/20. East Zone then enforced the follow-on.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s Red-Ball Challenge Continues Despite Stunning White-Ball Rise
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has already achieved plenty at just 15, but red-ball cricket remains an area where he is still developing. He made his first-class debut for Bihar in January 2024 at 12 and has played 8 first-class matches, scoring 207 runs at an average of 17.25, with 1 fifty.
Sooryavanshi scored 439 runs at the 2026 U-19 World Cup before producing a stunning IPL season for Rajasthan Royals. He smashed 776 runs in 16 matches at a strike rate of 237.31, hit 72 sixes and won the Orange Cap and MVP award.
Sooryavanshi then made his senior India debut in July 2026 and immediately impressed in T20Is. The southpaw scored 151 runs in 3 matches against Zimbabwe at a strike rate of 196.10, including 81 off 49 balls. He also won the Player of the Series award as India completed a 2-0 series sweep.
