Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's latest dismissal in the nineties has added another unusual chapter to his already remarkable rise in cricket. The 15-year-old was dismissed for 92 in the Duleep Trophy semi-final against Central Zone on Monday, taking his tally to seven scores in the 90s across recorded cricket.
The latest dismissal also draws a statistical parallel with Sachin Tendulkar, who was dismissed 27 times in the nineties in international cricket, including 17 times in ODIs and 10 in Tests. For Sooryavanshi, however, the repeated near-misses have all come since November 2025.

Sooryavanshi walked into the Duleep Trophy semi-final with just eight runs from his first appearance in the competition. He responded in style, smashing 92 off 81 balls for East Zone against Central Zone in Bengaluru.
The left-hander reached his fifty in only 42 balls and continued attacking before falling eight runs short of his maiden Duleep Trophy hundred. His dismissal also became his seventh score in the 90s in all recorded cricket.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi becomes youngest batter to smash fifty in Duleep Trophy
Sooryavanshi's 92 was not just another near-century. It came during an innings that established him as the youngest player to score a fifty in Duleep Trophy history.
He reached the milestone from 42 balls, hitting Saransh Jain for a six. After being dropped on 40, he continued taking on the Central Zone attack and eventually moved into the 90s with a four and six against Jain. He was finally caught by Arshad Khan off Harsh Dubey for 92 from 81 balls.
The teenager shared a 162-run opening partnership with Abhimanyu Easwaran, giving East Zone a strong platform.
The Duleep Trophy knock saw him become the youngest player to score a fifty in the tournament's history, doing so at 15 years and 157 days. He broke Laxman Singh's 57-year-old record, which had stood since 1969.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi also had another major record within reach. A century would have made him the youngest Duleep Trophy centurion, surpassing Tendulkar's record from the 1990/91 season.
How Vaibhav Sooryavanshi became a cricket sensation
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's rise began remarkably early. He made his Ranji Trophy debut for Bihar against Mumbai in 2024 before turning 13, becoming one of the youngest players to make a first-class debut in India.
His explosive batting soon took him to the IPL. Rajasthan Royals handed him his debut against Lucknow Super Giants in April 2025 at just 14 years and 23 days, making him the youngest player in IPL history. He scored 34 off 20 balls in his first appearance.
He then took the IPL by storm in 2026. Sooryavanshi scored 776 runs in 16 matches at a strike rate of 237.30, including a breathtaking 103 off 37 balls against Sunrisers Hyderabad. He finished the season with the Orange Cap, the Most Valuable Player award and the Emerging Player award.
His form also earned him an India call-up. He made his senior T20I debut against England after being selected for India's tour of Ireland and England, becoming India's youngest men's international debutant.
At 15, Sooryavanshi already has IPL records, an international debut and now a Duleep Trophy record to his name. The repeated scores in the 90s may be frustrating, but they also underline just how frequently the teenager is putting himself in a position to score big.
